This puts a huge smile on my face. It's the first I've heard of anyone using the Crane billet distributor, and I want one like a bad habit. I've been waiting for someone to say how they are, but they're pretty new. Based on how long the word is taking to get out about the Fireball ignitions so you start seeing them around, I thought I'd never see one of these in use.

I absolutely love the new Crane distributor, although I havn't put many miles on it considering I just put it in. I would definetly recomend in to anyone, it's a really nice piece and actually the price was awesome, about the same as an MSD unit. I agree that not a whole lot of people use Fireball stuff, but I think there stuff is starting to catch on, especially the new adjustable distributor since it really is a trick piece with pretty much no mechanical pieces at all. Enthusisats are probably starting to get sick of MSD and there problem's.

I dont mean to hijack anyone thread but this thread is already fairly active so I figured I would post up questions that are close to the origional topic. Does anyone have an opinion on the Jacobs mustang ignition system? I saw it on Jegs and they say gains of 15 HP but who knows how reliable that is. Any opinions.

O yea my car is an auto with a B+M hammer shifter. I was going to get a transgo shift kit but Im eventually gettin a turbo so I figured I would just save any cash I was going to put into the stock tranny into savin for a C4 or maybe even a Lentech with OD. Thanks alot Jay

Not a big Jacobs fan, don't know much about it either. Wee built a Conquest down at the shop that has one, and it pretty much sucks, but it's an old one. Couldn't say. I've seen the Crane advertised to give as much as 19HP, I think any HP gains are pretty much wishfull thinking with an ignition usually, although not without exception.

Pretty much. It will definately run better, but it isn't something you'll probably feel seat of the pants- not that it doesn't happen.
Just get strait Motorcraft plugs. Theoretically, there are applications where the plat4's have advantages, but ours isn't one of them. We've had GM's that just plain didn't run on them at all. They aren't all they're cracked up to be. I can vouch for the Livewires, I've had mine since the HI6. Got the whole Performance Distributors kit with the Screamin' Demon coil, etc, nice stuff. That should be all you need though, and the Crane/Ford adaptor. You'll probably get your best deal on a Fireball ignition direct from Crane. Mine was $110.

For the tach. You hook it into the factory harness where it went into the original coil (green w red stripe if memory serves). I usually just strip the wire and slide it into the female plug and then plug the jumper harness in. Tach goes before the ignition module, just like a stocker.

BTW, my crane setup came to a little over $400 with the BTM setup. Summit was giving coils away with the HI-6s a little while ago and I installed a few of them in customers cars.

There is no difference man. The gold one is just an earlier version of the HI-6 from the 90's. The black one is newer. Technically they are the same design, that have had some minor impovements through out the years.

Dude, you need a web page. You've done too much to that car to not show it off.

Ha, Ha, Ha! Thank's! I have spent ALOT of time and money on my car but every bit is worth it. I don't have much time to post a website but give me a couple of month's and I'll have some Pic's up and more details on the car. Not only that Winter is just clearing up here in Canada so I am still working on getting the car ready for this year. Plan's are in the make's to go to a chassis dyno in June so that should be interesting as well.
I checked out your Stang on Car domain. Pretty killer man! How is that Ron Davis rad treating you? I almost purchased one for my car but ended up going with a Be Cool because of lack of a distributor in Canada. (Freight would have been to much out of the states) How was the Fit?

Uh oh, thread hijack officially in progress.
So-k, I think it's fizzling out now. The Ron Davis has been great, I love it. Noticed a definate improvement in how cool the car ran with it last summer. It isn't cosmetically perfect like a BeCool is, but it's about 1/3 the price too. That's what I wanted originally, the full kit w/fan from Summit $999. Then I saw the smokin' hot chick in the Fuidyne add, and noticed all the big guys were pretty much running those. When I went to order one, they talked me into the Ron Davis for $100 less. No hot chick poster for the wall, but it works awsome. I don't understand the freight to Canada issue- I get stuff on ebay from Canada all the time and it's never any more then getting it a state away is. What's up with that? Seems like I could ship you one cheaper than you can order it shipped for.
Just so this isn't a total lost post: MSD is only still popular because they've been around so long. They were the first to be called the best and are still being carried along by their reputation while their technology has gotten stuck in the mud. They still like their outdated designs and can still sell them, so if you want the newer better stuff (digital, etc) you pay out your ass for it. Truth is, the new technology isn't inherently expensive, and doesn't cost any more to produce than the old analog crap did. It's all in the name. Oh- and MSD pays bigger (much) contingencies than Crane, Mallory, or Jacobs does, so a lot of racers use them for that reason too.
