CRANK QUESTION ???

i am about to put on a new fly wheel and balancer i heard that i can get more perfomance out of my engine with a lighter flywheel, i was thinking a 28oz (i belive that is the lighter one) aluminum fly wheel. my question is, would it be as simple as putting on the fly wheel with matching balancer or would i have to have the crank removed and balanced as well? thanks for the help fellas.

the 28 and 50 oz is just the imbalance. dont put a 28 oz flywheel on your car. you can buy lightweight flywheels that are balanced for your motor (50 oz).

i dont think i understand, about the imbalance, i thought if it was a 50oz flywheel it weighed 50oz's, and by that reasoning i dont understand how you could make 50 "light OZ.s" 50oz is 50oz. i guess ill reaserch what it is you are talking about, howstuffworks.com answered a lot of my turbo questions. if you have time to explain it a bit that would be cool. thanks

it doesnt actually weigh 50 oz. its just an offset weight to counteract the vibrations in the motor. the balancer has 50 oz opposite of the weight on the flywheel.

The flywheel has a weight welded to it that weighs either 28 or 50 oz.

the light weight means that the actuall flywheel is made lighter, not the weight.

exactly, its just the weight. Aluminum flywheels are lighter than iron but their weight is measured in lbs.
