What in the world is this hump between my windshield and engine hood? I just saw this today and i never notice this before.

What can it possibly be and what causes it?

Please help!

Whew!!!!

Yeah, I was definitely feeling it and trying to figure out what it was. Thank goodness!

Really, if my gf didnt point it out, I would have been oblivious to that hump!

Interesting thought though, how many of you actually noticed the hump after reading this thread?

Reminds me of Family Guy, where Peter was giving himself a breast exam and found a lump, but it turned out to be a Cheeto.

It's supposed to be there. Part of the windshield wiper mechanism is under it

wiper motor/transmission
changing the wiper trans fluid out adds a ton of power, enough to sling a sleeping cat off

You really should be sure to change your blinker fluid while you're at it.

The black plastic piece is called the cowl cover. I would look at the weater stripping right there. It looks like it is pushed in and doesn't quite cover the outer edge. You can see moisture accumulating in the spot where it is pushed it.

This provably doesn't matter too much on these newer cars but on a classic water pooling in the cowl is bad news.
