Cricket in my clutch???

HEllo All,
I´ve got an ´01 V6, and it is the most reliable car I have ever owned! 86k and the only problems I´ve had so far were very minimal. Right now I am hearing a noise when I let outmy clutch that sounds like a cross between a whistle and a cricket chirping. It doesn´t do it when I press the clutch pedal, only when I release....it´s driving me crazee ...help.

100%no doubt the throw out bearing is what your hearing..
when you replace the clutch the bearing comes with it.
shouldnt hurt anything, just annoying to hear.

Hey guys...is there any way to lube it? Do I need to replace the throw out bearing? Is it possible without hemoraging money?

if its only been making the noise for a month, you shouldnt have any problem.
the noise will just drive you crazy enough you will want to fix it..
if it has been making that noise since last summer then its time to replace it
along with the clutch cause its a package deal.
considering the previous problems you have had with the car which you say are
minimal, i would say you owe it to your car..
cars need lovin to , not neglect..
your getting close to cluctch replacement anyway with that milage and it would be a good idea before the clutch material is no longer, and it starts eating away
the flywheel..then it will start to get expensive...
im not saying run out today and have a clutch done, but in the next month or so
would be a good idea.. start sorting your bills now..

No worries about that, I am actually familiar with how a clutch works and why you shouldn't ride it. got no prob laying down the money, if it is for a major operation. I saw some performance clutches in mags, are these worth it, or should I just go with stock. I mean does it make a big diference?

if you are running a power adder then i would upgrade..
but you would be suprized how well the factory clutch material holds up to milage.
if you have plans to upgrade horsepower by twice as much , go aftermarket..
if your installing a clutch into a daily driver or something with a little extra h.p.
definately go stock replacement..

Wanting avoid actually breaking down to change a major component, what other parts do you think might need replacing around 86k...alternator, water pump? I don´t mind skipping a few thousand miles, if it keeps me from calling a tow truck.

Yep. Throwout bearing. Mine's doing the same thing. Just today I spent $200.00 on a clutch kit.

My car also screeches when I start it. My friend said it's the "tranny pilot bearing"? Anyone have that problem before?

It's NOT the belt or anything turned by the belt. He took the belt off, started the car and it STILL screeches.

i highly doubt that..i dont get it why would he remove the belt if the noise was coming from the tranny area?? i would check your cam sensor..sounds like your chasing a noise that you dont know where its coming from..if you pull the two small bolts that hold the cover on and spray some wd40 right inside the cam sensor put cover back on..your noise will probably go away...
i hear this complaint of a belt squeek all the time, and half the time its
caused by a squeeky cam sensor..its another very common item that goes bad on all ford v6 motors..trust me the way you explained it sounds just like all
the other complaints that end up being a cam sensor...

i have also never heard a pilot bearing make a screech noise when only started..
sorry but it sounds like your friend is just guessing...mabye not but it sure sounds like it.

There's also noise (rattling) coming from my AC clutch or idler pulley, which is why he started his search there, with the belt. Once he pulled the belt off, the rattling stopped but the screech was still there. He did something under the hood a few times and had me start it, shut it off, start it, shut it off, then he crawled under the car and poked around while telling me to start it, shut it off. Once it stopped screeching he said, pilot bearing.

He's a mechanic by trade, and a damn good one but, I'll tell him what you said. Is the cam sensor... What the hell is that? Is it something that can kill my motor? Before he said it was the pilot bearing, he mentioned something about the cam and motor.

Should I STOP driving it? I'm kind of scared here. I don't want to blow my motor.

BTW, my clutch is chirping really bad and has been for a LONG time.

The clutch is being replaced soon and if the screech stays, then we'll know for sure. I'm not driving it till the screech is GONE.

Also, I never said the noise was coming from the tranny area. He figured out where it was coming from by getting under there and doing stuff. (don't know what he did to stop the screech but he stopped it and said pilot bearing. LOL) There's noise EVERYWHERE under the hood of this car and he took off the belt to rule that stuff out. My Dad had said that it was my AC clutch screeching., That's why my friend started there.

dont worry about driving it im sure he would have told you if it was unsafe to drive. . check the new thread on cam sensors.

Actually he did tell me not to drive it. It'll be fixed on Tuesday. Gives me an opportunity to drive my 5.0 so, I'm good.
