Cross Brace Behind Rear Seat...

What structural purpose does this cross brace serve? I remember hearing it was fairly important, but i also read that it's a flimsy worthless POS.

I have removed mine, but if it serves somewhat of a purpose, i'd weld something better in there or maybe make a brace which would bolt to the top of each shock in the rear.

My orange car had it removed, I've left it in my red car. I saw no difference, and it doesn't weigh anything. I thought maybe it does make some difference -- that's why I left it. It will support the rear seat if someone sits back there, which is all I think it's really for.

Are those only in coupes? Because I don't have one in my hatch...

Never thought of that cjman15.. i guess they can't be that useful. They are pretty thin material and flimsy, only like 6 tacs holding it in.
