There are three wires in the steering column you need to intercept. They switches themselves use specific resistances which cause the various cruise functions to work. I’ve seen folks mount them in the ashtray area under the ashtray door.


This thread has all the specific wiring diagrams and shows you how the switches function. The tricky part will be retaining horn function along with the cruise as they share the same wiring.

The 86 non-cruise wheel shares the same horn contact plate and brushes as the 87-89 mustang, so horn should be plug and play. You just need to tap into the right wires and extend.

To throw a monkey wrench into all this, the wiring colors in the evtm don’t match up in certain years.

Done a little research into this and figured what I learned should be put into a thread and added to the tech sticky. As you can imagine, nobody really gives much thought to cruise control on these cars, so many searched threads had dead ends. So many this will help someone out down the road...

I did it a few years back in my '89. Relocated them and it worked fine and I used a Momo horn button. I found 3 old pics.
