Cruise control repair for 83 GLX Convertible

I have an 83 GLX Convertible. It has the cuise buttons on the steering wheel, yet they don't work. Any ideas how to get them working again? Driving 200 miles without them is a great pain.

No help here, i have a friend with an 87' 4cyl Mustang LX Hatchback... and his cruise control buttons dont work, but then again niether does his horn, so we are 90% sure it is an electrical thing, not two seperate issues... which brings me to think, in the case of an emergency, would his airbag deflate???
