Custom Dumped Exhaust Question -Pipes from H to the mufflers?

I'm setting up my exhaust on my 88 GT. I have new BBK longtube headers, BBK H-pipe, and 2 chamber flomasters. the system is 2.5". My question is where do i get a piece of pipe to mount to the flanged end of the H-pipe and then mount to the flowmasters. I am dumping the exhaust before the rear axle. The car is at the shop now and i can't get her back till i find a solution. My mechanic refered to the pipes as flow tubes.... Any suggestions?? I called BBK and Flowmaster and they had no ideas except to buy a used catback system with the flanged ends and cut those off and weld them on my setup. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm confused. Don't the flanges connect to the headers? Then the other end connects to the mufflers? (or "flowtubes", which are just plain old 2.5" pipes, then flowtubes to mufflers?)

I've been wondering the exact same thing. My longtube swap is about 2-3 months off though.

The h-pipe has a flanged end on the outlet side. This is mainly for hooking up a cat back exhaust where everything is allready connected up. The catback system has a flanged end that mates up to the h-pipe. The flanged end allows fo rthe pipe to have some play but not break the seal of the pipe. I didn't want to run an entire cat back system so i'm stuck with one flanged end. The local custom muffler shop said they could weld on a flange to a 2.5" pipe, but my shop said that it would be a hassle because the measurements would have to be just right. I'm stuck now. How did everyone else run their "dumped" exhuast? I read alot of people signatures and it seems pretty common.

It's not a straight pipe on the outlet where you would just use an exhaust clamp. :damnit: You have a flanged end where another flanged end would attach.

MAC makes flowtubes....I believe a few other places sell them also.

I just removed the tailpipes from my cat-back system.

I hope the flanges will match up. Did anyone ever attach a MAC flange to a BBK? I called both companies and they couldn't guarantee fitment.

yeah its hard when u mix and match. the flow tubes are also sometimes called intermediate pipes. when i dumped my exhaust with some dynomax's a friend gave me i had to get a set of intermediate pipes and then weld hangers onto the mufflers. when i got the set up together low and behold one of the intermediate pipes was too short to reach the muffler hanger. so i took the hanger off and flipped it around, then notched a piece of the hanger out so the upper control arm wouldnt rub on it and viola! problem solved. You're gonna have to get creative, but you'll figure it out good luck

yeah ive run into the same problems just swapping mufflers, the new mufflers dont have the flowtubes. i always end up cutting them off the previous set of mufflers i had and welding them up to the new ones.

summit i know sells them. ive also mixed and matched alot of flowtubes to my h-pipe and they all fit. if they are both 2 1/2" you should have no problems.

They will fit flange-wise, guaranteed. They use the standard 2 1/2" ball-type flange.
