cylinder head question

the 351w in my 65 is an 85 "police interceptor" from a crown vic cruiser. ive never thought it was anything special, other than when i buy parts, it comes up a 351 H.O. well, today, i had the front accessories off (stinkin' oil pump!) and there is an "R" cast into the front of the pass. side head. it seem i read on here that this is a pretty good head for a small block.whats the deal? valves, ports, all of the above? it has always been a strong engine, even with the 2 barrel intake, and stock exhaust manifolds (it was in a ranger then)

I will go one step further than D...
W heads made after 75-76 are good:
Anchors
Door stops
Paper weights
Wheel chocks
Catapult ammo

Etc

You forgot one more use.......... excellant fodder for a scrap drive or gas money with prices where they are.:nice: In summary, small block heads from 75-76 to 86 are only worth their weight at current scrap prices.

From what I remember in my Ford parts department days, the 351 PI engine was basically a stock passenger car engine except it came with a hotter camshaft. I don't remember the specs on it, but it had higher lift than the standard 351W can, but the timing events were fairly close to stock so the engine would idle nice and smooth. A little better than stock, but nothing special.

mine had the frpp a-332 cam in it... i just swapped in a comp magnum in its place... because ford doesnt offer flat tappet cams anymore, only rollers. stinkin' oilpump cost me bigtime! (oil pump, cam, distributor gear, gasket set, synthetic oil change, time...) maybe that arp hardened oil pump drive shaft wasn't such a good idea:shrug:
