my 93 SSP, auto tranny needs new motor, my rod bearings are shot and my oil pressure is all over the place. what is more economical? to have the short block rebuilt and then buy new top end parts or to buy a short block and then heads, cam, intake etc. or just buy turn key crate motor? I would like to get this done in the car for 4grand or less. car has 3.73's and bolt ons, suspension and brakes are done. new built aod with higher stall convertor also. close to 300rwhp and say 320rwtq is the goal, no power adder in the future. if anybody can point me in the direction of a place to get good prices for parts or a shop in the northern va area please do so.

As tempting as it may be "while your in there" to put in heads and all kinds of nice things, this is your D/D and you need it ASAP, and under 4 grand is the budget.

I would have the shortblock rebuilt with forged pistons and such, high quality parts, balanced, things like that. Put a new balancer/dampener, timing chain, as well as a new cam. Getting the heads rebuilt may be wise, but you might find for the price you could for not too much more just get some nice, shiny, alumimum heads to top off that new motor, or just call Thumper, he'll rebuild your heads and remove some of that excess iron in the ports while he is in there for not much more than a standard rebuild.
