Yuck 1st Gen Viper = UPS diesel truck. You can get really good deals on RT-10's from the late 90's. As you know I like roofs so my pick is the GTS, but for the past 6 months or so I've been toying with the idea of buying factory 5's new GTM. Factory 5, is 15 from where I live and I go there every now and then to look at their machines... and the GTM looks really nice. Got a couple of friends over here that have diesel trucks and they all complain about the dodge, yes nice engine but wrapped in mopar junk. I've looked at those as well, but I've been waiting for BMW to come out with their diesel SUV's to the states. Other than that the 7.3's were sweet- the 6.0L, I agree- suck. Cant get too mod happy with the 6.0L, whereas the 7.3's were pretty detuned to start with.
I know Cummins is the ****nit as far as diesel engines go, but after sitting in a Dodge and a Chev truck- gimme a Ford any day!
Thats weird, I've been browsing the diesel boards and most seem to prefer the duramax. If I were to go with a truck I would go powerstroke anyhow, I can get those real cheap now <$15K. But one of the concerns is the gas mileage, I'm going to rack up a lot of miles driving back and forth so if I can get the "in town" mileage in the 20's it would be awesome. The doges weak link is the fuel system, wich isnt much of a problem if you do a simple upgrade before anything starts going bad... As an example, we've got 3 les schwab crewcab 2wd dually pull trucks to pull our show trailers around with... one ford, one dodge, and one chevy, there all 03's all diesels and all have the same options and allmost all of them have 300k miles on them now. The ford will randomly die for no reason, its had electrical problems since day 1. The duramax is now on its 2nd engine and 5th set of o-ringed heads, The dodge has had a frontend rebuild and thats it... that helped make up my mine when I was choosing since I'm neither brand nor make loyal
