So I'm thinking about getting either an 03 or 04 cobra and from what I hear they're pretty reliable. I plan on getting one thats stock with relatively low mileage. Does anyone know what some of the main problems that people have with them are?

Well...I just bought mine a month ago, and it's already made its first visit to the service dept at my local Ford dealer. What was the problem? TOB and tranny case...and a minor recall issue. I, too, use it as my daily driver, and so far I've had to pay almost $300 in rental car fees. Thankfully it's still under warranty until Sept. of next year!!!! Don't get me wrong, I love this car, but if this is any indication of its reliability, I'd buy a Civic as a back up if I were you.

If the car is still under the factory warranty then you shouldn't have to pay for a rental. Ford either provides a loaner vehicle, or pays up to $28 a day towards a rental if your SVT vehicle requires repairs which result in the car being down for more than a day.

At participating Ford dealers, yes. I don't think my local dealer offers this, because they asked if I needed a shuttle service. I didn't think it was worth asking after that.

ive had my 02 GT for about a year and just bought a 03 Cobra about a month ago.

the cobra is a way better DD. its more comfortable, easier to get up to speed with less effort, its tighter in corners (i dont like vehicles that have alot of body roll when i turn the corner at 10mph), the IRS sucks up the bumps and potholes whereas SRA would skip all the time.

now that i have the cobra insured, i drive it everytime. i should be driving the GT more to get it shown its for sale, but i hate driving it now, it just feels so crappy compared to the Cobra. the GT just sits in the garage.

I don't think that's the case. Whether a dealer wants to participate or not. It is a benefit of owning an SVT vehicle, regardless of what Ford dealership is performing the repairs.

I took my Cobra to my local Ford (non-SVT) dealer when I first got it. It had a bad vibration at highway speeds. They said it would take a couple days to fix it. I ask for a rental while my car was down, they laughed and said they don't give out loaners or rentals. I called 1-800-FORD-SVT and within 15 minutes they were offering me a rental car from the local Enterprise agency.

You might want to call....

Not true. A loaner is part of the SVT package. I,ve had my car at local linclon/merc. dealer to have the rear end sealed and when i mede the appt. they made arrangments with Enterprise to pick me up and had a rental waiting at their lot.Take your owners manual with you (the SVT one) and show them the part about the rental agreement.

Doesn't a dealership have to be SVT certified to service SVT vehicles? If so, free rental ($28) applies.

Wasn't the case for me. The SVT folks I spoke with on the 1-800 number told me there was no problem with me getting service from a non-SVT dealership. The dealership just took the cost of the rental and rolled it into the warranty claim they submitted to SVT.

Correct. The contract is with Ford Motor Company ,not just with SVT dealers. The problem is most regular dealers are not aware of the free rental , thats why the SVT manual is important.
