Damn BBK Equal lengths, Instal help needed

So I went to a performance shop closeout, picked up what at the time I thought were BBK shorties and after taking stock manis off and trying to throw the ='s up there, realized I didn't have shorties, they were equals. So with a little use of the search button it seems as though I have to take apart the steering linkage for the drivers side header and jack the motor up for the passenger side.

Does this sound right?

Also if and when I jack the motor, which part of the oil pan should I jack, as there is only two clear portions of the oil pan, very front and very back.

Also is there any worry about damaging the trans/drivetrain and it is still hooked up and I am jacking up the motor.

Any other tips or things I left out???

You DO NOT have to jack up the motor. You have two options here. I just unbolted my steering linkage and it gave it the extra room to fit the header in. Another thing I have heard done was unbolting the drivers side valve cover and sliding it over, supposedly this gives you a little extra room as well. I think your best bet though is to just unbolt the steering linkage, it was pretty painless. Good luck....

what about the passenger side?

With shorties I dont think you have to touch the motor. I unbolted the smog stuff, airbox, and steering linkage to get my LT's in. I did however have to raise the motor but with shorties you will not need to. You just have to try and snake them in there. Try putting them up from undernieth the car. I got the passenger in from the top, and that was with LT's.

Been there done that.

For the driver's side undo the one bolt that holds the steering linkage and install from underneath. The bolt has to come all the way out. As for the other side I had to lift the engine about 1-2" and installed the header from the top. Just unbolt the passenger side motormount and use a block of wood between the oil pan and jack. I used the rear hump on the pan. Be sure the block of wood is not pushing on the drain bolt or else it will dent the pan. Yes it is a pain but worth it.

exactly what i did. it took about 4 hours, but we (things are much easier when youve got a friend to work with you) definitely took our sweet ass time. just do it right the first time and use some quality gaskets, those paper gaskets that come with bbk's SUCK and WILL blow very easily
