do you still have the rubber stoppers on the part of the hatch that touches the lights? If you do, you can unscrew them a bit to hold the hatch up higher. If you have no idea what i'm talking about i can take a pic for you

this is what u may want to get!!

http://secure.50resto.com/product1.cfm?SID=1&Product_ID=78&Category_ID=276when

when these wear out you generaly should replace your hatch seal also as what may have occurred since 1989 is these stops have wore and mashed your hatch seals the link above has the little bumpers they also hav seals for your hatch!!

All of the above is good advice. You should also check the condition of the striker bushing. If it is missing or broken your hatch will rattle like a new Chevy. You can also adjust the striker up and down. I think I read somewhere that the later model fox hatches had some kind of additional rubber bumper further up along the side of the hatch. Is this true or am I just imagining it? I never remember to look when I am at car shows.

Those bumpers from 50resto should solve your problem. I have to get those too.

The striker is the little post that your latch assembly latches onto. I need a new one myself, actually....
