SN95 Daytona Sensors CD-1 Ignition Control

I finally ordered a Daytona Sensors CD-1 ignition control to replace my 4th burned out MSD Digital 6 Plus. I have allotted Monday morning to start installing when my son is in school. I am reading the instructions, and my head is spinning. I'm looking at gutting all the ignition wiring I have in there, and going with a fresh start. It replaces all my self designed relays, is more automated, etc. I was wondering if anyone else is using one. Any tricks I might need to know to run it on a manual transmission nitrous car? What has been your general experience?

The company is pretty new. They are built in Daytona where I lived for a long time, so it's a way to throw some money back to some of the people I know. I figured I couldn't have been the first person to put one in an SN.

I have the car up and running and put back together now. I have not had an opportunity to program the box yet. It runs smooth, and so far so good. I have no idea where I hid my nitrous jets, so until I find them, or buy new ones, I will not be able to test the nitrous stuff to see if it works. I have it jetted way up right now, and that will not work out well on street tires. The 30 pages of directions left a lot of information out. I was only able to get it installed because I knew someone that worked for the company. I googled all of the internet, and as far as I can tell, I am the first person to install one on a Mustang. I don't want the next person to have to do as much work as I had to do to figure it out. Once I have everything tested and programmed, I'll make an effort to answer some questions not covered in the instructions in the "Resource" section. Here is the link for anyone interested.

Man those look really nice units. Might be something I consider when I finally get my together and install my spray on the car.

How do you like it so far? Any chance to mess around with it?

More importantly; employee discounts?

It would be innappropriate to mention what I paid for it, but the retail price is fair considering it comes with the coil. Definitely on par with a Hi-6. I am working a lot the end of this month. It drives fine. The last thing I have left is to link up the laptop and test it. I'll have to report back on that.

Is it like a digital 7 where you can do timing control and stuff ?

Yes. I am actually not too familiar with the actual operation of the Digital 7. It does everything the Digital 7 does, and a few more things. It is made of higher quality parts in the US. It has all the nitrous features, like window switch, tps activation, etc built in.

Update on the progress. Everything is complete, and should function. I conducted the fastest nitrous test in history. I opened the nitrous bottle in the car for the first time in half a decade. There was no actual nitrous in it, and the remaining gas pressure vented through the purge solenoid which is apparently stuck open. Nothing to be done until that purge solenoid is replaced.

Got ya . That’s cool to know for the guys who are carb or don’t have full stand alone capable of all that stuff

It seemed pretty cool to me using the factory EFI.

Crane Cams used to be in Daytona. They are now in Mississippi. The box looks like the Crane HI-6 when they were in Daytona.
Probably this company consists of former Crane employees.

My Hi6 & PS91 coil are 25 years old.

Crane Cams still has a facility in Daytona Beach. I know people who work there too. I understand the company was a spin off from when Crane Cams had their big bankruptcy and got bought out by S&S many years ago. I had good luck with my PS91 coils. I think I went through 2 of them in 20 years. I actually had two friends from Daytona, one at Crane offering to get me a good deal on a Hi-6DSR, and one from Daytona Sensors trying to sell me this thing. I went with the Daytona Sensors box. While not a big name company, it checked all my nerd boxes.

Daytona Sensors was actually just acquired by JMS group also in Mississippi.
