DC Controller and using the A/C

Hey guys,

Alright, when I first hooked up my controller, I had no A/C so I didn't hook up the blue lead to the compressor so the fan would run anytime the A/C was turned on. It said in the directions to connect it to the "input" wire that goes to the compressor. Does anyone know which wire that is? I see a black wire and a black/yellow wire. Which of those am I supposed to tap into or am I way off?

The car is an '89.

It goes to the 12 volt intput to the clutch. Should be black/yellow but use your meter real quick to check it.
The other wire going to the clutch is a ground.

That's what I figured. I was lookin' through the Haynes manual for wiring schematics. Thanks man.

Only problem I had was gettin the fan to start... It didn't want to start spinning when I put the A/C on. I had to give it a little tap to get going... What's the next thing to check, the fan or the alternator? I have a 3G out of a '94 but it doesn't seem to charge as strong as I hear all the time. I think it might be a ground problem.

WHen you bought the fan and had it on the bench (so it is NOT connected electrically), was the blade resistive to being spun when you first spun it lightly?
WHen you bench tested it, was it sluggish to get started?

If this always happens (AC input or not) when wired to the controller, bench test the fan with a fused power source to see if it balks. If not, the fan motor might be seizing, and the huge start-up draw is seen as a short-to-ground by the controller. In such a circumstance, the controller shuts down.

If your battery is remotely charged, the alt is not the issue.

Most times it starts up just fine. I didn't notice it dragging before I installed it, but I lost a Taurus fan recently before this one because the motor went on it. This one is out of a Lincoln.
