my dc controller worked for about an hour then stopped....its so weird....im not even sure it worked properly...how did you guys install yours i followed the exact directions....what jumpers did you guys use
 
Where did you mount the little thermo-switch thing that tells the unit what the temp is? That might be your problem. What thermostat do you have? If you still don't get it figured out, I'll take some good pics tomorrow to show you how mine is. It's dark out now.

Mine works great and has for about 6 months now. The only thing is I still haven't mounted my in-car LED that shows the fans speed; I've had it duct taped and now the duct tape is not sticking.
 
I believe that you want your temp setting to correspond to your thermostat. You don't want the fan set w/ a lower temp than the thermostat or the fan will be on all the time.

Make sure you put the temp sensor on the DRIVERS side of the radiator; mine is right near the edge about 4" above the hose

If you still can't figure it out, maybe shoot Baskin an e-mail. I'm sure he'll have an answer. You might check his site for a FAQ or something first (not sure if he has one, just an idea). He also might see this and post up.

Jumpers that I am using:

1/2 - Temp Probe

5/7 - 202 degree kick on of the fan (stock 195 Thermo)

I have since unhooked my U/D jumper because the controller will just turn on at the required temp. Which means the fan isn't running all of the time.

Depending on what thermostat you have, you want the fan to kick in 5 degrees higher so the thermostat is fully open.
 
When you say not working, you mean not turning the fan on at all? How high has the temp reached? Have you read the directions that come with the unit? They're pretty easy to follow. Just read them thoroughly, because I know that there are 2 jumpers that should NOT beused, the unit can be damaged (I didn't setup my 1st DCC, someone else did it, and I had nothing but problems from this). My current setup also includes that handy little LED that tells you how much power the unit is putting out and the in-car temp controller, no more need for jumpers. As much as I like the DCC, and wouldn't use anything else for the purpose of controlling a fan, I do find it to be a bit quirky sometimes, but that could be tied to anything (t-stat issues, grounding problems, etc.). If you can, provide more details.
 
ok mine is mounted about the same 4 inches above the lower hose and i was using the 6,8 jumper i have a 180 thermostat.....the temp climbs all the way up......i have to shut the car off...and it sucx cause im going on a mustang cruise sat...so for the mean time i have a 50 amp switch with a 60 amp fuse and 8 gauge wire connecting it all just till i figure this out.....i have power to the controller and ground...but theres only ground for the power outlet to the fan.....never switches over....i know the fan works great....and i even connected the yellow wire so the fan stays on once the car is shut off....i didnt connect the power to the battery only cause its in the trunk..but i connected it to the power side of the soloniod where the battery+ cable is.....and the ground is good....right to the block where the - cable is grounded.....i def didnt use jumpers 11,12 cause those are the ones that damage....i dont know what to do but this sucx cause i was so excited about this unit

and it doesnt come on at all
 
What do you mean that there's only ground to the power outlet to the fan?

Let's start from scratch:

You have a trunk mounted battery. do you have a filter on the unit?

You should have one wire run from the the controller OUTPUT to the fan postitive and one wire run from the controller GND to the fan negative. Is that what you have?

You should have 12V to the ignition input and the AC input should be connected to the AC compressor clutch. Are these connected?

What jumpers are you using? Just 6/8 (194) or are there any others?

What happens when you turn the AC on, does the fan come on?
 
no i didnt connect the a/c cause it says to only do that if you have factory electric fans....yes i have the 12v ignition hooked up...yes everything exactly as you say it....im pretty good with working electrical things and ihave a probe tester which helps alot but i think there might be something wrong with either the temp sensor or the unit....or the jumpers are wrong...i have tried moving to all jumpers except the 11,12 of course...and nothing my car overheated like 4 times on me from all the different things i have tried....what im goin to do next is take the sensor and put a flame near it to see if it kicks the fan on...
 
Sorry bout your problems. Any chance you could have blown a fuse? Just a thought.

Mine works good. It's controlling a junk yard fan off of a Chrapler vehicle. My LX is basically stock, has a 195 t-stat, DCC has pins 6&8 jumped for +14, don't remember if A/C is hooked up (I hope it is), and it runs right around 200 degrees. And I have no problems with the stock alternator keeping up.

So, basically you're saying the unit/fan does not come on at all? My advice would be to do what I did: disconnect all of your wiring, and I mean ALL of it. Then, start from scratch. This way, you can determine if there is something you missed in the wiring setup, maybe a short. It's very easy to miss something when everything is hooked up and 'looks' good. Rebuild your setup, and maybe jump the DCC to kick on at the lowest possible temp, just for troubleshooting purposes. If you're waiting for it to kick on at 195* and it doesn't, you don't have too much flexibility to troubleshoot because the temp can start climbing fast. Also, are you sure that your temp gauge is working correctly? I think that this may be easier than returning the unit or buying a new one. Either way, I'd redo the wiring, even if the unit is toast. Something in the wiring may have fried it.
 
yea thats what i will do this weekend is just start over and use the lowest temp jumper......i think my temp gauge is within range cause when it gets hot you hear the anitfreeze starting to boil.......i will try again thanx for all the input

That should provide for a quick and painless end for the temp sensor. The control unit has a bit more mass to it so I’d suggest using something more substantial to kill it off, do you have access to a kiln?
 
ok the open flame thing was not sayin i was gonna take an open flame to you unit!!:lol: ..it was gonna be my way of testing the temp sensor to see if it worked....

I had problems w/ my setup when I was installing too and my issue was placing the temp sensor in the radiator fins correctly, in the correct spot and sorta molding the fins around the sensor. Baskin helped me determine that and I believe that was my issue.

I wouldn't trade this thing for a toggle any day
