anyone know what gears are in my buddies mustang? its a 1996 Mustang GT 5 speed. tag on rear is.

I know the 88 part means 8.8 and the 6c06 is the date but im not sure what meants what gear it is..im guessing R is for the gear but i dont know what "R" stands for? anyone know?

2 73 all five speed mustangs except for cobras came with 2 73 the early 4 valve cobras came with 3 27 gears automatics i believe had 2 options for ratios and i think they were 3 27 or 3 08

The ratio is 3.27:1 You're missing the "3" before the "R". The 3 is partially or fully obscured by the bolt. And that R is probably not an R anyway. I've never seen anything other than "L", "LS", or "SL" there, all of which indicate a limited slip (Traction-Lok) differential.
