Dead Batt. = Potential Problems?

Howdy,

Well I am hoping I can get my car out of the garage for its first drive this weekend.

Anyway, the first winter I had the car, it sat just fine and started up in the spring. This winter, different story...the thing was worthless.

I had to jump it to start it once, let the car run for about 20 min, and went to install some tail light stuff, went to turn the tail lights on and boom, dead already.

So I now know the battery is crap, will have to replace that. BUT, I also noticed the my Shaker was going ape ***** after I got the car started. I also, noticed that my TPMS light was on, very easily could be low pressure in a tire, but it said error - so I may have to recalibrate my wheels.

This being said, since the battery dying appears to mess alot of things up...will I need to re-tune my car? Or should the tune hold regardless of dead battery or not. I am sure my tuner is dead as well, sat in the car all winter. Does a dead battery in the tuner erase the tunes? sort of like a RAM type memory?


Any info/advice would be appreciated.

From my past experience, you will be fine if you just install a new battery. All the things happening are just due to the dead/bad battery. Automatics have a small issue of the trans. needing to relearn your driving but nothing more than any battery disconnect would do. Put in a new battery, give things time to settle down.....see what is different and go from there. I bet nothing will be odd though.

As for the tuner, I doubt the dead battery would be a problem...if so, the same thing would happen when the battery needed replaced and there would be a lot of people not happy then.

Anyway....that's my thoughts.

I had the same problem a couple of years ago and a new batter cured it. Now I'm having the same problem. My battery (second one) is drained after sitting overnight. I had it tested and they say it's ok. I had it on a charger overnight, it started fine on my way to work yesterday, but was dead when I came out 9 hours later. Jump started it, drove right to the parts store and they said it tested ok. I did turn the radio off before I shut it down. I wonder if the passive alarm is drawing too much power.

Any idea which fuses feed the shaker or the alarm?

Ford wanted my whole car in to test it, It was foggy and crappy out so I put it off. I took a charger and slow charged it over night, then speed charged it before I started it. It kept going from fully charged and then the charger would buzz and drop down to 75% for about 15 seconds then jump back up to fully charged.

It continued to do this, so I started it up and drove it to put my brakes on. Has not given me any issues, BUT, I have now started pushing the volume button on the Shaker to turn it off before I leave the car...maybe that solved it?

The battery has a dead cell or something, but has worked fine ever since charging and manually turning off the Shaker.

I will keep updated when it dies next.
