b e and f cams sound good the b "sounds" the best and will pull to redline hard if you retard it a little bit, its like hitting vtec at 3-6, the e is alright its like a stock upgrade but its not that hardcore lol
my e cam with the 1.7RR doesn't sound loppy at all. When i had the TFS 1 with the same rocker, you would have thought it was built to hell and back. But this e cam pulls harder than the tfs1. I had a b cam in it right before the e and its sucked.
Around here, any time your typical hick is selling a Mustang, it's always a "306 with a small cam" and their knowledge of cams is typically limited to the Ford Alphabet cams, so they say "it's a small cam, it doesn't lope very much, i think it's a B cam" which i laugh my ass off at because the B lopes almost as hard as an X303 does.
So can i ask a stupid question which cam is a decent cam for street strip use...Im going to be getting AFR 165 heads...performer air gap by edelbrock 1.7 RR's my 650 AVS edelbrock card...Im going to be running Mac long tubes..Mac off road H-pipe and Mac cat back...I was told TFS i think stage 1 is ok...what else can i use...???
The best answer is a custom cam...but aside from that it's just gonna be the cam that goes along well with the rest of the engine, not just "a cam that lopes". The stage 1 typically works well with most HCI engines.
I have a B cam in my 88 and it hits pretty hard. When its cold you would swear that it is getting ready to stall. That said I would prefer a TFS stage 1 or even better a custom. My 93 has a TFS stage 1 and it has a nice lope but not overwhelming.
In the end a cam on a 5.0 with the stock intake and heads will not really net you much in the way of performance gains mostly it will sound good.
