I'm debating on tire choices for drag racing...
R/T: .327
60': 2.199
1/4: 12.04
MPH: 127.55

Obviously, I get no traction. I wanna be in the high 10s, and have plenty of mods to support that kind of time. Problem is I have 12'' rotors in the rear, what are my tire choices, both drag radials and regualr drag tires???

Thanks for your help

Mickey Thompson, BFG and hoosier all make 17 and I think 18 inch drag radials and I believe hoosier has 17 or 18inch dot slicks, not 100% sure though

For you, I would recommend a street legal wrinkle wall like Mickey Thompson ET Streets or comparable other brand. Find the smallest diameter wheel you can fit on the back of your car and get two wheels in the same style as your other four. You will probably need to screw the tires to those wheels too. You have the 31 spline axles, might as well put them to some use.

There are guys going 9's on 276/40-17 M/T radials, they should work just fine for you.

I've gotten them from americas tire before, but they always have to order them in. You can also get them through summit and Jegs.

The MT's are the best drag radial. Don't buy slicks as you cannot run Car Club. The ET Streets are wrinkle walls with two treads for DOT approval. They will be easier than drag radials to hook-up, but not as streetable. If you've never run a wrinkle wall tire: they will cause your rearend to sway back and forth as you near the finish line.

I think you'll be surprised how well the M/T radials work compared to the ET-Streets. I've read several accounts of people actually improving with the radials.

the think about the et streets is its a softer "bite" so it saves drivetrain from the shock. if you got the drivetrain to handle it the radials are a stickier compound but will be trickier to get a good launch from due to the stiffness.

its a fun ride trapping at 118 with those in a stock aero and suspension convertable. kinda liek a boat on some mild seas. LOL

I use both. My best 60ft time is on MT DR's but my worst is with them too.

yea, ive got the equipment to handle it, just ask stock50lx, he asked me about the car alot on friday night. It was built bulletproof, and shouldnt have any problems.
As far as the M/T radials go, I will find some today online and hope to get them here by next week. What pressure are you guys running?

That is what I recommend. DR's or ET Streets on the 16's will work fine.

If you order wheels and tires from Summit, they will mount and balance for only $10 per tire.

From my experience, Hoosier QTPs are a way better tire than ET streets if you plan on going Bias-ply. And if its a stick car the sidewall on a Bias-ply tire will absorb the shock alot better than a radial which translates into a lower 60'. Generally this means a little wierdness on the top-end but to be honest my QTPs were super stable on the top end, unlike my ET streets were.
