Decelerating issues help

the car is a 88 mustang gt aod speed density. when slowing down the engine will give a big rev when the tranny is shifting from 2nd to first. it is worse when it is cold but still does it when it is warm the only thing that eases it is by closing the throttle plate more , but that only helps when it is warm. what could be causing this? it is really annoying and am worried that i could be putting unwanted wear on the tranny.

NOBODY REPLIED?

ANY SUGGESTIONS WHAT WOULD CAUSE THE ENGINE TO GIVE A BIG REV WHEN THE CAR IS DOWNSHIFTING FROM 2ND TO 1ST ON A 88 AOD 5.0 SPEED DENSITY. IT IS WORSE WHEN IT IS COLD

Unless you are capable of doing auto transmission repair, this will not be something that can be easily fixed. Find a reputable auto transmission shop in your area and be prepared to spend some $$$.

Also, simply bump your old thread rather than starting a new one. Someone whom hadn't read your first one wouldn't know what you're talking about.

Jrichker's advice is very good. If you desire to do some E-hunting, I'd hit TCCoA and search. There are some good auto trans threads and guys over there.

There is a cable on the throttle body that has to do with shifting. There is a brass bushing there on the t.b that wears, possibly your problem, might be a cheap idea to start. I had to do this when my car was an aod.

... and turn your caps lock off. Although some of us are old (not mentioning any names *cough* jrichker Hissin *cough*), they compensate by using large monitors. There's no reason to "yell".

the tv cable on the throttle body wont cause that problem....it will make the trans shift late or too early. you probably looking at a rebuild so start looking at prices...but most places cant give you a price until they have the trans apart. good luck

You're saying "it'll give a big rev", what exactly do you mean? Is the engine reving itself up between these gears like someones pressing the throttle? Or is it down****fting from 2nd to 1st while the engine is still high in RPM's? Like if you downshifted a standard tranny from 2nd to 1st at 40mph and just let the clutch out quick? I guess im confused on your wording.

WHEN IT IS SHIFTING FROM 2ND TO 1ST AND THE RPMS ARE ABOUT 8OO IT WILL GIVE A QUICK REV UP TO 1300 AND PUSH THE CAR FORWARD, THAT IS WHEN IT IS COLD, WHEN IT IS WARMED UP IT WONT DO IT. WHEN THE CAR HAS BEEN DRIVING FOR OVER A 1/2 HOUR IT WILL DO IT SOMETIMES BUT NOT AT 800 RPMS BUT AT 1100 RPMS, BUT THERE IS NO PUSH FORWARD ALMOST FEELS LIKE U ARE PUSHING THE CLUTH DOWN 1/4 WAY ON A STANDARD. ALSO AFTER DRIVING FOR OVER 1/2 HOUR THE RPMS WILL SHOW 900-1000 IN DRIVE AND 1200 IN PARK. INSTEAD OF THE 7OORPMS IN DRIVE AND 900 IN PARK.

how does it upshift? doesnt really sound like a major problem. has it always done this or did it just start recently. usually on a cold engine the trans will shift differently to keep the engine from bogging or stalling.

no problem with the upshift, and it never did this before. it cant be good.
