I FINALLY got a great paying job, and will be doing ALL THE THINGS I've always wanted to do with my '02 GT Mustang. But I need guidance from people's experiences.

First, I'd LIKE to get a 5.4 dohc ( bore stroke it to 350 or so), get perf parts for it, and twin turbos, but I have no idea if the extra cost for a 5.4 is worth it, over a 4.6 03 cobra engine. I'd like the extra cubes and torque of a stroker, but the extra 1.5 grand it will cost over a 4.6 cobra might be better spent elsewhere. Thoughts? Also, a streetable intake manifold is needed. I've been looking, but would appreciate input on what people have experienced with their own purchases and setups. Additionally, anyone have thoughts on Ferrea titanium valves for street? I'm wanting to rev pretty high ( 7k or 7300) and want to never worry about valve float WITHOUT resorting to super high pressure springs.

Second, if a 03 cobra 4.6 is chosen, what would I need to get it working in an '02 GT? Very important...Do I need a different wiring harness? Different ancillaries (water pump/oil pump/alternator, etc.) or can I swap most of the goodies of my 02 gt over? Just wondering.

Third, a Viper spec T56 will be ordered after the engine. Anyone have suggestions about flywheel/clutch packages? I'd like to have a lighter than normal flywheel/clutch. Carbon/Carbon clutches, perhaps?

Fourth, rear end. A 9" Mark Williams, most likely, all the way, with 373, or maybe 350 gears. The worst part is trying to find good looking rims that can hold the wide tires I want. 315 are fine, but I'd like to have 335 or even wider, so tubs would be required at that point.

If ANYONE can give insights about these things, especially the engine/transmission aspects, please do!

Thanks for your time and help!

Both the 5.4L and terminator engine are going to cost a lot of time and effort. Both will require a new wiring harness, all of the accessories, and of course a new transmission. Honestly, I think you would be better off buying a 04 terminator, building the engine, and calling it a day. That's what I would do.

agreed, will be ALOT easier and probably cheaper to buy an 'o3-o4 Cobra and do a few upgrades

or

buy a built shortblock, throw on a Novi 2000 or 2.6L KB, maybe some cams, upgrade the fuel system and you're done. 600hp+

T56 is a good idea although it's not a direct bolt in, i'd buy a built 5spd (assuming you car is already a 5spd)

the 8.8 is plenty strong, no need for a 9". buy some upgraded 31 spline axles and maybe an eaton unit and you should be set

the setup you're thinking of is going to cost WAY too much, require ALOT of custom work ($$$$$$) and spend alot of time in your garage or a shop.

I had a 2V, I went with a bored 4v motor, cobra C heads ported polished bronze guides high lift valves. 2001 cobra intake manifold port matched, sullivan has a nice 1 but with a turbo it forces airs threw no matter what but if the cars NA it will help sum. My bottom end has manley H beam rods, idk what pistons, billit crank, ARP2000 rod bolts and i think head bolts, billit oil pump 10qrt oil pan. Lots of other little stuff. Im doing a custom single turbo with a 327 gears and C4 tranny with trans brake. Im going with 9" rear as well but with a T56 it shouldnt strain the rear to much because you wont leave the line with any boost really. I would get a carrier and 31 axles. But why would you spend all that money and not make the car at peak potenial unless you wana put down high HP, but auto turbo cars are alot faster than 5-6 speeds. When I take mine out on the street im going with the M/T Drag radials 325s.

Bye the way why twin turbos, i have never seen a (fast ET) twin turbo cobra they blow the tires away they NEVER hook up. Especially with 373s put the 327s in her and it will stay boosted longer.

I really hope you know what your getting into its going to cost alot of money and time

Motor 10k
TT kit 9k
Single kit 7k
Tranny C4 3500
T56
Rear end 1200
Suspension 1000
Fuel system 1200-1500
rim/tires 15/10s 1000
Roll cage
I know im forgetting more good luck :nice:

Thanks for the replies, everyone.

I'm fine with the engine, but I know it won't cost 10k.

TTkit from HP performance, a little over $6000 or so.

Viper Spec T56 is $3800

Rear end $2500 or so, if new and built. Far less if I bulletproof mine.

Suspension (steeda 5 link) $1199

Fuel System (I'm fine with your prediction)

Tires - 265 or so up front, 355 (with tubs) out back. I know they exist, I'm just having a hard time getting a straightforward price for them from stupid Goodyear website. May have to look at other brands...

Rims - Forgeline Alloy SP3P (18X11.5 in or 18X13in for rear tires) $4400 (because I don't want 'boy racer' rims, and want something that actually looks stylish)

Roll cage 200 or so

I've been considering that 3.25 or so would be better suited for a turbo or supercharged street car. Higher gears would be better with N/A, depending on power output.

And blowing tires off is a matter of being too high in the rev range for a good hookup. It's all about knowing what is needed to hook up, not taching it out and launching like so many do.

And this isn't an all-out dragstrip car. It's a streetable car. And twin turbo cars are making heads turn at all ford competitions.

After I get the initial performance parts laid out, I'll be going back and incorporating lightweight body parts into the install plan, trying to knock off absolutely as much body weight as possible. So if anyone knows of suppliers for carbon fiber/forged aluminum/aluminum/magnesium body parts for an '02 , please let me know. And thanks again.

you should recalculate you pricing, I have about $10,000. in my 2v with all machine work and custom mods. That isnt including the rotating ass. But at $95.00 an hour it adds up fast.

Maybe just starting with a Terminator wouldnt be a bad idea, I mean for the money your about to dump in there, eeesh....with a cobra, your already half way there...plus you get the brakes and handling package and what not,
Thats gonna be a crazy bill otherwise
