Hi everyone,

I just wanted to announce to people that I've launched a new web site named Decode This! at http://www.decodethis.com. It's purpose is to provide a single source to decode classic car VINs, and eventually (when I get brave enough) the 17-digit post-1980 VINs as well. The decoding engine I've built is flexible enough to handle pretty much any American VIN pattern I've come across so far.

Being a Mustang person (MCA# 63478) I started off with the 65-73 Mustang VINs. I'd really appreciate if you guys would stop by the site and validate the data I have in my engine for the Mustangs.

One of the other features of the site is the ability to add descriptions to each part of the decoded VIN. Meaning you can add text to explain what a particular value really means. Check out This Boss 429 Decode link for an example.

Hopefully you'll find the site easy to use. :) You can also automatically decode any VIN by using http://www.decodethis.com/<VIN>, such as http://www.decodethis.com/9T02M123456 and it'll display for you the exploded VIN information.

The site is still in Beta, but fully functional. Have at it and try to break it!

I appreciate the assistance, and would also appreciate links to the site if you find it useful. :) I was tired of having to scrounge around for a decent VIN decoder, so I ended up writing my own. I'd love to get the word out to as many people as I can.

Oh, BTW check out the WAP (Wireless phone or PDA) decoder at http://wap.decodethis.com as well. :)

Thanks,

Richard Brown
