Starting to tear down this 289, can anyone decode this tag for me?
want to make sure I am ordering the correct parts.

Hi
The short answer....
What's important there is the fact it's a 67 2 barrel 289 engine. The rest of those numbers are not going to help with parts purchasing, so much as for historical data.
Obtaining correct parts will not be an issue. All the internals, for these blocks were pretty standard for a number of years. There will be external differences between a 65 and 67, for example, but not dramatic.
The other numbers are probably plant, shift etc.
I'm sure, someone here will chime in with the details.

289=Engine CID
C=Cleveland Engine Plant
67=Model Year
1=Change Level (I think this is mis-stamped, it should be 13 for AUG '66)
6-H=1966-August
236=Fairlane/Comet/Mustang/Cougar/Falcon 2V with Automatic Transmission
A=This is the suffix and I don't know what this one indicates
