Decoding Axle Tags

I recently bought a parts car that the guy told me was a 95 mustang gt. The engine was already out, he had 2 transmissions, that were both out, and an extra rear end. (One rear end was in the car, one was out.)
This is the one that was out of the car . It looks familiar to me.
3L27 88. - 3.27 trac loc 8.8

This one i took out of the car today. It is different

i am assuming this is a 7.5 rear end, and the more i think about it, a v6 car? It has a 150mph cluster in the car, but an extra 120mph cluster came with it. The rear bunper says mustang gt, but it's (now) obvious they at one point removed it and put it back on..
Do the disk brakes from the 7.5 work on the 8.8?.

Looks like a 7.5" with 3.73. Yes, the brakes should be the same between v6 and v8 of those years.

Your right on the 8.8 and the other is definitely a 7.5 probably with 2.73 gears as that's what came with the v6 cars. Do you know if the car ever had a V8 in it? To me it kinda sounds like someone started converting it to a V8 and then gave up on the project.

If it came factory with a 7.5, then no V8. You may be right about the 2.73, I really can't say for sure, but I would be surprised if a low torque motor like the v6 came with a 2.73. They usually need more help to get moving. Either way, the 7.5 really isn't suited for v8 duty.

I agree on the v8 swap that failed, as well. I can probably tell by the vin for sure, yes?

The brakes swap from 7.5 to 8.8 flanges. They are the same rotors, pads, and calipers. The caliper brackets should be the same too.

The 8.8 was built Aug 8th, 1994. 3.27 limited slip, built at the sterling, MI axle plant

The 7.5" was built April 6, 1995, 2.73 open diff built in sterling as well, but v6 model mustang diff.

The 8.8 tag says 3L27

That would be a 3.27 limited slip, not a 3.73?

Ok, so now..... Transsmissions! From what i know now, im assuming one is a v8 trans, and one is a v6 trans. How do I identify them? Thanks!
