You CAN adjust timing with an XCal 2 using Xtreme Tune IF the dealer gives you the tune via email or on disk (we do). If the dealer uses SCT's latest dealer software (we do) than the dealer can allow on device ajustments without a computer or laptop. You can't add much timing, but you can pull a lot of timing.

The XCal 2 will allow the afrementioned user adjustability, as well as datalogging with a laptop (soon to be on-device), the ability to read and clear DTC's.

Some dealers can further customize the tunes on your XCal 2 via email - it goes like this - you datalog what the dealer tells you to log, then you email the dealer the log, then the dealer makes changes and emails you an updated file. I do this all the time for my customers - it's not required for dealers to do this, but I do it. You can get really close to dyno results for idle and part throttle with this method. If you have a wide band (we require one for a mail order with a blower/turbo) than you can even get WOT pretty darn close. It takes patience and the desire to take the time to do the datalogging.

From what we have seen, the CAIs usually lean things out quite a bit, my guess is that's what the culprit is. The other thing, I doubt it's detonation free revving it it under 1000 - there just isn't enough load to do that - the detonation on shifting IS a problem though and that's easy enough for your dealer to fix even without any datalogs.

Hope this helps,

Don

Thanks Don - I actually got the following message from a tuner from the spot I purchased my SCT 2 (www.steeda.ca) on a Canadian forum I also posted on...

"Please PM me the processor code, and a full list of modifications and I will get you a new file immediatly.

A MAF should always be clocked in the stock position especially when doing mail order tuning...however, with kits such as the FIPK, Steeda CAI they change the meter orientation. Simply rotating the maf is something that should not be done, especially with mail order work. Mass Air Meters are designed to be oriented in a certain position.

I would take a quick peak at your plugs and clean your MAF as I get you a new file. If you have access to a laptop I will have you datalog a few things for me.

It is true, I have never seen this issue before and all tunes are written on the dyno. I was not the person you spoke with but will get you taken care of no problem"

I did take it out for a run after switching back to the stock filter (snorkle removed) and actually found that it pulled at least as good as it did with the K&N FIPK (maybe better). It does seem that the K&N caused a lean condition. No detonation at any level currently

I will follow up with Steeda.ca as per their offer above and & get another tune after datalogging. But rather than just loading up the new tune & throwing the K&N kit back on ... I think I'll arrange for a trip to the dyno to check the before and after.

It'll all have to wait for spring now... the stang goes into winter storage tomorrow AM Calling for SNOW tomorrow night!

Thanks for all your help! Steve

Wow, the SCT dealer said exactly what I did. I should start my own business. Good luck.
