Let's suppose that I took my car in for some warranty work such as rattling AC vents, and cracked leather seats. And to prevent a crooked technician joyriding in my car, I use a Predator (or equivalent) and set the rev limiter at 2k and the speed limiter at 20. If a tech actually decides to joyride in my car, and sees that the limiters have been adjusted, could Ford void my warranty?

It that tech had an accident(like rear ended pulling into traffic) while driving your car like that you would be liable. That scenario was forseeable.... And Ford would void your warranty.

yes they would and also because the computer has been tampered with cause they know that the rev limit aint at 2K

It's what I figured. But the reason I asked is because he shouldn't be joyriding in my car anyways. Maybe if I take the case to court, I'd argue that he drove my car without my consent. (stealing)

P.S. Such a thing has never happened before and I hope it never will, I'm just asking out of curiosity.

Well when i use to work at mercedes there was a guy with a CLK500 with a kleeman S/C that put down over 550HP and i forgot the TQ. But one time they put 30 miles on the car, and for a road test its 3 miles max but it also depended on the repair like a tranny swap required a long road test of over 10 miles to get the tranny shifting smooth..... Anywho the guy requested that he would be present for any road testing after that, so my point is just ask them and see if they let you taht way you'll be sure they didnt abuse your car.

i could see setting the rev limiter to like 4.5k so they arent doing any high revving, but i wouldnt touch the speed limiter. and if they do question the rev limiter, just tell them its a crazy random problem that youll bring back for later repair when the problem becomes a full time issue.

they don't really cover 'cracked leather seats' under warrenty do they?

Yes they do..But if you take ur car in for work i would set the car back to stock..

Ford could not "void your warranty" even if you told them you had tuned the car. The Magnuson-Moss Act requires the dealer to prove that a modification you made caused the part failure which requires warranty work, and even if it did, they cannot void your entire warranty because of a modification. They can only refuse to fix under warranty a part that the dealer proved to have failed as a result of your modification(s). The dealer would be standing on fairly solid ground if your motor blew and they refused to work on it, but for things like cracked leather seats and rattling AC vents, there is no way the dealer could prove a tuner made them break. I would still recommend putting the stock tune back in your car, just to be safe.
