When I put my Diablo tune on my car, I notice that the fans get turned on constantly. I can hear my fans turn off especially when I turn off the car. Does the fans go on because the diablo tune makes my engine run at hotter temperatures (vs. the stock factory tune)? Or was it just in the diablo tune to turn on the fans just for extra cooling?

at what temperature did you change them to go back on?
I set the low speed 1 on at 202, low speed 2 on at 204 and high speed on at 208. Then I set the high speed off at 206 and low speed off at 200.

Edit: for comparison the factory was nothing on until 216 so I still stay cooler than the Factory settings but it doesn't stay on all the time.

well if you with there performace tune you have advaced timing. heat plus timing advace can lead to detonation.

that is why the set point are lower. If you don't change you thermostat though the fan are proably going to run more.

what is the stock thermostat vs the diablo setting?

I mean the people at diablo most likely did this for a reason so I would look into changing the thermostat vs changing the temps but that is me.

Yes, but their's is a general tune that is for the whole country and it is supposed to be with a stock thermostat, 180 for the Mach1 and 190 for the GT. That means it will never go below those temperatures. They set the fans to go off in the 180's so unless you are going down the road on a cool day the temps will not go below that and your fan will run constantly. In Florida that does not work, so before changing anything I discussed it with Diablosport. I told them the fans never go off after turning on with their settings in the Summer and I wanted to change mine and my Son's to never go over the 208 mark and shut off at 200. That is well below the temps from the Factory settings from Ford. The Factories will allow the Mustangs to run in the 220 range up to near 230 while in traffic before the high speed fan comes on. My Son or I have never had any detonation from running those settings, after all the timing that is put into the Diablo tune isn't that much more than stock. Give them a call and see what they suggest for your situation. But if your fans stay on constantly like mine did, the life cycle for them will be cut dramaticly.

Some of the original Diablo sports did come with a 180 degree thermostat but they stopped doing that for the need was not there with their basic tune as I was told.

Thanks for your input, I'll be sure to incorporate these numbers into my tune. Do you know if the general SCT tune (on their handheld tuners) also keep the fan on as much as the Predator?

the factory lets the cars get hot as hell but it does rob power.

the reason diablo lowers the set point is you make more power when you car is not running at 220 degrees. So it comes down to which you prefer running the car hot or decressing the life cycle of you fan.

but there are a couple was to handle it. lowering your thermostat can help the fan cycling but in a very hot climate in traffic it takes fans to hold those lower temps.

i dont think the fan being on would affect the programming of the tune, but ive tried to open and close my door cuz i get impatient waiting for the new tune to upload and it messes it up from the electrical beep and internal lights coming on. :P

I just did some data logging with the xcal2.

Stock fan ON=216
Stock fan OFF=206

SCT tune fan ON=202
SCT tune fan OFF=192

how do you like your xcalibrator2? I used the predator and I was wondering if I would feel a difference if I had changed to SCT?

Just open your door prior to starting the tune load.. It shouldn't interupt the load if open the entire time. It's the change in the electrical draw when the lights and beep come on.

The only time I've heard the fan on with the engine off is when loading a tune, and the manual says it will do that..

I pre-ordered the xcal2 at MD. I got a 93 octane tune, and a stock 87 tune with 3.73 gears.

MD gave me a great tune for 93 octane with my mods. The data logging is great too. You can't change anything on the handheld yet. You have to use their xtreme tune software. You must have the files emailed to you to change any settings.

The only thing I don't like is MD support. They didn't include the USB cable; it's being UPS'd now. It's been 7 days, and they only emailed me my 87 tune. They said that my folder didn't have a 93 tune, so Ken will email it when he gets around to it. It would be nice if they included a floppy/CD with the tunes you order.
