Diagnose my ticking problem

5speed-70K miles Started driving this AM with no problems, about 3 miles down the road, I'm cruising down the off ramp and something feels off. Like a slight vibration/ticking noise and it was speed dependent, slower I go the slower the sound. Drove around for lunch and it's worse. It almost goes completely away with clutch engagement but only with acceleration or deceleration. If I'm coasting down below 2500RPM's with clutch engaged it still does it.
If I go from a stop it starts when I let out the clutch and shift to second, but when I accelerate in 2nd it dies down. If I'm cruising in 2nd it still does it. If I push in the clutch it's worse. Then if I decelerate, from 3rd to 2nd, it gets quiet untill a slower RPM in while still in second and then it gets louder. A few times it was quieter under somewhate hard braking.
I thought TOB but that's usually described as squeaking. I checked tires for rocks or debris in them. I don't think it's a spark plug because it doesn't do it sitting still or when reved. I recently broke a front wheel stud but that was on the passenger side and this sounds like it's either directly underneath the car or on drivers side. No lectures :looking in KT's direction:, fixing the wheel stud this weekend. I'll have time to look it over more after work but just wanted some suggestions on what to check.

my car also makes a tick similar to this only with the clutch engaged at low speeds under 2500rpm it goes away after that. it didnt start doing it until the stealership put a new clutch in it. im not a fan of the noise it makes my car sound like a beater its only got 75k on it and was owned by a older woman before me havent beatn on it or drove it hard. thats what my other two cars of for the gt is my dd.

Figured it out. It was my wheels. Both front and back on my drivers side were getting loose. I guess when I applied force to it, acceleration, deceleration or hard braking, the wheels had enough pressure on them to not make much noise and then when crusing they shaked and rattled along with the speed of the car.
My advise is to check your lug nuts every so often. Just a good idea.

dang I was hoping it was a similar ticking as mine. Mine does it mostly when i'm going slow or just idle (at least only time i can hear it really).
Looks like it was the serpentine belt so we replaced that yesterday. Still makes the sound...car drives like normal though.
I've had the similar sound right before i've had a spark plug blow, but this sound is a little louder. It's annoying Any ideas?
I can make it do the sound by turning on my AC. ..

I have in the past 3 weeks used my AC more than I have in the past 3 years...it's just too freaking hot lately


Also should the tensioner ever move?

Very true about the lug nuts.

Does the sound go away when you turn off the A/C or will it stay on?
I had a similar problem with th AC clutch not grabbing hard enough and the AC would switch between really cold and warm air. Eventually it just stopped working until I bought a new one.

yea it'll stay on when I turn the AC off...
it'll come on even if i didn't use the AC. Seems to be mostly when i'm going slow or idling though.


now my engine spewed coolant everywhere when i got home.

don't know if it's related but i'm gettin frustrated.

o man that sux mine started making a nice ticking noise as i drove it and its been spewing coolant since ive bought it the ticking happens all across the band but its most noticeable at idle to-2000 rpm -.- although ive never tied the ticking to the spewing coolant until now.....im just as lost as you right now tho lol i alwasy thought the ticking was a loose fender or something. well anyways, turns out my car had a blown gasket and i figure thats why it was overheating so much and spewing coolant out the resevoir

mine hasnt overheated or lost coolant yet but from hearing this im going to keep a close eye on it

mine's not overheating though. so i hope it's just the radiator cap that's bad and i replaced that.
it's been over 100 here lately for the past week....it hasn't been that hot here ...well can't remember when it's been that hot here for a week straight.
the ticking i'm hoping is just a pulley...maybe the bearing in the tensioner pulley that's bad.
