did anybody have tranny fluid inside their old shifter????????

I just pulled off my old shifter, (wasn't too hard,didn't need a piece of wood)I looked down inside an see tranny fluid where the piviot went and down inside the shifter. It this normal? It wasn't a lot, just at the base.

It's fine. They all have a little fluid in there to keep the parts lubed.

I had the same thing your cool plus u are gong to love the Tri-Ax but expect a little bit of noise. The noise is normal even says so on the directions.

That's fine...and you can fill it from there too, if you change your fluid at the same time. Just make sure you take out the sight plug only and have a friend under there to tell you when to stop filling it.

Noise? Naw, it's just the sweet sound of V8 thump twisting thru the trannie. Personally, I love a bit of gear whine...it's racy. If you like V8 exhaust rumble, I think you'll like a bit of gear whine. By the way, I've found out (by switching different parts many times) that the knob itself has a lot to do with how much noise you'll hear. The stock leather knob on a Pro 5.0 handle is very quiet. A FatKnob (cue ball style) on a Tri-Ax handle is much noisier. And the Steeda handle itself is a little more noisy than the Pro-5.0 handle.

Isn't the sight plug visable inside the shifter mount, when the shifter is removed? Where would this friend be to see the sight plug? Are we talking about the same thing - the fill plug/sight plug? I was only aware of two plugs - a drain plug and a fill plug. The fluid level should be at or near this hole (obviously it can't be higher than this hole for too long - as soon as you pull the rubber plug out, it would start to drain out if it had too much).
The T-45 calls for 6.6 pints (or 3.3 quarts). I changed the fluid on my wife's T-45 equipt 2001 GT this past weekend without pulling the shifter, but I had to pull everything else out, including the inner shifter boot. Still, it was a bear to get the rubber plug out and even harder to get back in - access to it is very limited. Draining the fluid was simple. Just use a 3/8" drive socket wrench to remove the drain plug. Then I used a pump to push the fluid into the trannie thru the fill plug hole. I used Mobil 1 synthetic ATF and it made a big difference - I was surprised (she was too) - very smooth shifts. Viewing or checking the fluid level thru this hole is nearly impossible. I just pumped exactly 3.3 quarts and called it done.
I couldn't imagine doing this without a pump. They say you can use a funnel or syringe, but I just don't see that being very easy.
