did my alternator die?

the voltage reads only 10v at idle. if you set it idle for a few seconds it will go up to 14v but if you rev it at all, the volts drop to about 11v. normally doesnt the voltage go up when you rev it? doesnt pepboys or autozone do free alt and battery testing?
my alt has a warrenty i think, ill have to look for the paper work.

sounds like maybe when you rev it up, it's overloading your voltage regulator, and not as much juice can get through, then when it settles down the VR can more easily set it at 14v

just my opinion, but do as jrichker said and if your alt and battery are fine the VR would be my next bet

took it to pepboys and it failed misserably. thank god for the life time warrenty. sux i have to send it to texas tho. what a pain in the a** pulling it out. had to pull the sc and mounting plate for the sc, then jack the car up to get at it.

ya........your worrying me now. i already contacted them and they said to send it to them but i needed an invoice number. since i dont have it i was supposed to email them my name so they could look it up. they havent written me back and no one answers the phone. maybe cause its saterday. gave me the questionare to fill out

just checked out their web site, they are closed. have to call back monday.

Oh no man, dont sweat it. I just happen to run one of their alts and am curious about experiences people have. I know of a lot of people who run those (I searched a TON of threads here and at the Corral before purchasing) and very few had issues. And those that did seemed to have unrelated issues (like if they took the alt apart to have it chromed, etc).

In chatting on the phone, they seem like good people so I bet they take care of ya.

Good luck.
