You shouldn't have to do this often. Just make sure you put the right weight oil in and use some friction modifier. You should be good to go for a long time.

Easier? Lucky for me I work in a shop and have a driveline machine with a long hose that just pumps the oil right in, nice and easy. Was a messy job, but easy.

But as mentioned above, you really dont have to do this often. If its that much of a PITA, maybe you should just consider taking it to the dealer just to have the diff fluid changed next time and let them worry about it.

There is no need to remove the swaybar.

You can get a FRPP aluminum diff cover with drain and fill plugs to make it easier.

the covers are nice, but if you have a panhard bar it covers the drain plug. when i tear my diff apart im going to drill a hole in the bottom and put a drain plug directly in the case.

How many quarts ? Last time I change mine , I fill it up till it came out of fill hole so it was leaking from every where. Now it's not leaking so I think it fine.

I don't think you are supposed to fill it to the fill hole, that would be overfilling it. I think it takes 4.25 pints, which would be about 2 quarts and the friction modifier.

do all GTs come with a posi rear end? I changed the fluid to rid my car of a bad rear end noise, the new fluid helped quite down the noise but it's still there just not as loud, i didn't add the friction fluid should i?

Yes, you need four ounces of friction modifier in there.

I do not like RP but it does already have the needed friction modifier in it.

To support what McTeague said:

From the Royal Purple website: "All viscosities of Max-Gear are formulated with hypoid friction modifiers necessary for use in clutch or cone type differentials. No additional additives are necessary."

I did my 2003 GT a couple of months ago.
I used Mobil 1 Synthetic 75W-140 and added the modifier even though Mobil says they have it in the oil already. The reason I added more was because the label says something like "you might wish to add additional modifier for high performance applications" or something like that.

FWIW it wasn't too bad, but dang does that oil STINK!!
And believe me, anything it gets on, like cloths, are shot for life.

This man speaks the truth, i have yet to come across a gear oil that doesn't reak other than ATF. And that Ford friction modifier is just as bad!
