What is the difference between 1.6 and 1.7 rockers? Can 1.7 be used on stock 302 heads?

1.6 is very close to your stock ratio, on a .450 lift cam the 1.7 will push the valve .028" more than 1.6 rockers, and on a .500" lift cam the 1.7 will push the valve .031" more than 1.6 rockers..make sure your piston to valve clearances are within tolerance, i have a set of 1.7 RR's im looking to trade for some 1.6's for that very reason, and i dont think they'll fit under my stock valve covers without modification

with that being said, yes you can use them on a stock 302. and no they won't fit under stock valve covers without modification. i've got a set of crane 1.6's sitting on the shelf right now. i used to have a set of 1.7's for my old coupe. never got to put them on though.

Just FYI, an old school trick is to get the 1.7s off a 460....that's cheap power right there.

Are the 460 rockers stamped like the stock 5.0 rockers?

Yes...like i said it's an old school budget trick, but it will liven things up for next to nothing. You can probably score a set from a junkyard for less than $20. How cheap can you do a cam swap for and get similar results?

If you get the Crane 1.7's (the one's used on 93 Cobras) you can download the installation instructions from the Crane website.

Here's some I bolted on to some stock heads...

Well I have a set of roller rockers 1.6 right now and cant use them because they hit my valve covers ecspecially in the middle up top where the center bolt on the cover is that recessed area or slotted area on the cover for the bolts that particular one in the top center sits right in between 2 of the rockers and actually caused one yo bind up on me and bent a push rod. So what do I need to do to make my covers fit besides take the baffle out.

Either run valve cover spacers which is really old school and asking for leaks, or get taller valve covers, which *might* also mean you'll need an intake spacer depending on what intake you run (assuming you're running an EFI setup).

I have a set of 1.7 cranes on my 88 gt with stock valve covers and im running a trick flow stage one cam, and the heads have been shaved 30 tho.I did put some 1.6 on it to see how much diff. it would make the 1.7 had more top end and hit harder when it cams. but the 1.6 sound better but lost some power.

I have 1.72 Ford Racing roller rockers on my e7 stock heads with stock covers. The only thing I had to do was remove the baffle from the valve cover and all is well.

Same... removed the oil baffle and my 1.7s don't hit at all with stock covers. They're Proforms. It's also using a fairly thick cork gasket though... my old metal/rubber ones actually sit quite a bit lower.
