I have a 2.3 turbo engine that im building but the block seems to be cracked, nothing due to stress but where the engine would bolt up to the engine stand, one of the holes have broken off. I have a spare 2.3 n/a block...if I take all the guts outta the turbo block and put it into the n/a block it should be ok righT?

tahnks,

matt

The only difference is the turbo block has an oil drain for the turbo. It drains back into the block, right above the oil pan. You could always fab something up for the oil drain. Otherwise, they're exactly the same.

drilling...

most likely id be taking either the oil pan or the block to a shop and have them drill it (im chicken ****) thanks for all the advice. Im not going to have this engine done and rebuilt for a while, however, so i should be ok. Any suggestions on a good shop around central texas to take it to ?

thanks again for all your help guys!

you could do that or if your nerves about drilling the block i have seen the oil cap drilled and tapped with success...i would rather tap the oil filler cap than the block or the oil pan.

:bs: So are you saying the oil will drain up hill against gravity to a point higher than the oil drain on the turbo? I'm having a bit of difficulty seeing how this would work.

Guys, tapping the pan is easy, and that's definitely the best place to put the drain. Forget the stock drain location. That is so tight and hard to work with, you'll be cussing yourself in the future for not draining to the oil pan. Going to the pan will save you a ton of trouble and frustration later on if you ever plan on pulling the turbo off. Just use a -8 AN line.. the turbo side drain flanges can be found on ebay at a very reasonable cost, and just have an AN male fitting welded on the oil pan. Connect hose. Very simple. Pictures of this setup can be found on my website.

not saying i have done it but i think it was even the new MM&FF mag supercharger shootout or something...where they used that method....and didnt have a problem....

I know what you're saying, however, I just can't picture how that would work unless the turbo was mounted above the hood or something. Beats me.

There was a item displayed recently in one of the Mustang mags that was a drain back fitting that was designed to be attached by the home user on the side of the oilpan.

It was a cast metal two piece part that bolted together over a hole you drilled in side of the pan I think.

I thought it was from Dugan racing but I cant find the magazine it was in now.
