Sorry about this silly question, but what is the difference between an 89 coupe and an 89 notchback. I have been looking at some pics online to see if they look any difference and I just can't tell. Maybe the coupe is a little bit longer? Well thanks for the info.

i always thought a coupe and notch were the same. if it does not have a hatchback, it is a coupe/notch as far as i know.

coupe and notchback are the same thing, but they're actually both wrong. According to Ford, it's a sedan.

They are the same thing. It just depends on what you want to call it.

one has an actual trunk(notchback) and the hatch back does not have a trunk just the actual hatchback.

The notches are stronger and don't flex in the back when you hit it with the higher horse power.

Again, the hatchbacks flex more. Thats where frame connectors come into play.

i alway thought the notch what lighter in weight(?)
but on the hatch back the whole back of the car is your trunk basicly, and the notch is just a smaller basic trunk.. id go with the HATCH ~!IMO!~

In car lingo, the definitions are:

Roadster - 2 Door, 2 seater with no fixed roof (think early Viper)
Spider - 2 Door car with a removable/retractable roof
Convertable/Cabriolet - Any number of doors and a removable/retractable roof
Targa - Any number of doors with a removable roof mid-section
Coupe - 2 Door car with no hatch (also called a berlinetta)
Hatchback - 3 Door car with a hatch
Sedan - 4 Door car with no hatch
Wagon - 4 Door car with a hatch

Ford may call it a sedan, but they are technically incorrect.

Anyhow, a notchback is slang for "coupe" in mustang speak.

IIRC, the difference between a coupe and a sedan has to do with a sedan having more cubic feet of interior room than a coupe. I think I recall the that the mustang notchback/coupe/trunk-car/whatever just edged over the line and had to be classified as a sedan by the car manufacture and insurance companies.
