Hey, I've posted before asking about what type of differential is in my 94 GT. I have another question now, though. Is there any way I can actually check and make sure what I have without actually opening up the differential? Due to some recent experiences in inclement weather my friend thinks I may not actually have a limited-slip differential. He suggested that since I bought it used that maybe someone opened it up and took out the clutch packs before I bought it. So again, is there any way I can test it? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!

Justin

It's almost certain that you have a limited slip (trac-lok) differential, but it's likely that the clutches are worn after 10 years of use, and it probably doesn't function well as one any more. Have it rebuilt when you put in new gears :D.

Hairy Canary is probably right. After 10 yrs its about time. However if you want to test it, do a smoky burnout and have a friend watch both rear tires. If one smokes and the other doesn't (or smokes significantly less, then its time to rebuild). :p

if the tag is still on the rearend, it probably has not been apart. i myself never put the tag back on when i take a rearend apart b/c the info is incorrect after that anyway.

if its still there, the first few numbers will look like this

2 L 73 - thats 2.73:1 gear and the L means its a tracion lok
3 L 08 - 3.08 traction loc and so on.

id be pretty sure its a locker just wore out.
