diffs between c4 and aod tranny

I am picking up a a 5.0 302 and a c4 tranny this weekend. The tranny is being thrown in for free since it is attached. Currently in my 88 I have a AOD. Is a c4 better than a AOD or vice versa? Not really thinking on a switch unless there is a large jump in performance or benefit. Any input on the diffs and advantages of each would be great.

aod has overdrive and the c4 does not. typically a c4 is a little stronger than an AOD. most people that race their mustangs with a lot of power use a c4 mainly because its stronger

the aod has overdrive obviously and considering the cost of gas nowadays, no overdrive will kill your fuel economy. Both styles can be "built" if you know what I mean.

kk, so if I am not planning anything extreme (looking around putting out 300-350hp). I am better off doing the lentech valve body thing with my AOD or swapping this in?

just keep the aod if the car sees any highway use or is a daily driver. if its a weekend warrior than the c4 isnt a bad choice

Thanks, I'll just store the c4 for now, always good to have an extra tranny.

there are some things that you need to put the c4 in there. you have to change the crossmember (well not change it, but grind off the welds and adjust it to fit) and i dont think the stock shifter will work with a c4 also. if youd like, you can send me the c4
