Im changing the gears in my 05 to 3.73s, and I was told that I need to get a new differential cover. Do I need too? At a price of around 200 bucks its just kinda pushing the budget a little bit, im not one to cheap out on the car but thats a little pricey.

They recommend that because the factory one is thin, and on earlier models, it hung too low and caused troubles during jacking when jacking by the differential.

This is one that doesn't require panhard bar relocation:

Is it necessary? No. But it's a good idea and I would do it if you can swing the cash.

I always spring for the cast aluminum differential girdle when changing out gears on my cars. Sure, it's an extra expense, but it's a lot more rigid and will help keep everything in line on those hard launches and smoky burnouts. Should help to reduce gear wear and lengthen gear life. Plus the girdles just look cool.

Need? No. They do hold a bit more fluid, which helps to keep them cool, and the aluminum helps radiate heat more to keep them cool. They have preload bolts for the bearing caps to prevent distortion under high load.

They are important at the dragstrip or track car. Street car? not needed. But I'll likely put one in when swapping gears.

Thanks guys, the guys at the stealership dropped the price for me which was amazing. So I decided to take it, no point in cheaping out on the car now.
