Ok so here is my dilemma...my g/f and I are moving to St. Pete from CT

The move is approximately 1,300 miles

HERE is the problem

we have 3 vehicles to transport...my 2000 Mustang Vert 6er, my 87 Mustang GT T-Top, and her Dodge Intrepid

we don't have much and can easily drop the U-haul idea and save a couple grand...however there is two of us and we obviously can't drive 3 cars at the same time...

I can get a friend to drive the 87...but that would cost an obnoxious amount of money in gas

the car needs a new hood, needs new paint and isn't in the greatest condition...people tell me to keep the car...but the value on the car just isn't that high

something tells me I should sell it and pocket the money..for I do NOT have enough money to throw repairs and mods into the car!

I have ZERO mechanical skills and would have to pay for every little thing w/labor to get stuff done..

is the car worth going through the trouble of paying $2,000 for U-haul with tow plus the gas for the U-haul plus having it around down south to mod the **** out of?

If you still want a fox, maybe look around and see if there are any foxes in St Pete. You could get money from your 87 plus the gas or shipping cost you'll save to look for another

I'm not sure how modified your car is but, as far as gas , 1,300 miles shouldn't be that bad. I just drove from Boston to L.A (3,000 miles) in my '01 GT, and it cost approx. $440

Just food for thought

it gets about 12 MPG and the going rate for gas is about $3.70

1,300 miles / 12 MPG = 108 gallons of gas * $3.70 = $400 in gas

the car has about 139k miles on it and I'm not 100% sure the car will survive the trip...I think it will but I'm not sure

i'm with wythors. if you really like the t top cars, even though they are out there, you are going to have a hard time finding another one, especially one in a decent price range.

Pay to have it shipped? Might be $600-800 or so.

T-top foxes run wild in florida ive stumbled across them in the junkyards down there. If your car is only getting 12miles pergallon on the highway sell it. Mine got around 33 on the highway. I lived in florida for 2 years and stumbled across the cleanest 5.0s down there for cheap money.

Why do you have a car that is so rough and yet you have "ZERO mechanical skills" in the first place? Sounds to me that the car is dead weight for you right off the bat. Yea, its a T-Top, but unless you have big plans for it (and for advancing your skillz), sell it off and have a little more padding in the 'ol wallet.

Again, with "ZERO mechanical skills", he'll be paying someone to do this for him. Haha, I do like the idea though.

33mpg? Christ! Are you sure you're talking about a 5.0? That's at least a full 10 mpg better than what the EPA rates a 5.0 Fox on the highway.

Trailering stuff like couches and dressers with a car is OK, but I'm thinking that hauling a loaded 3000lb+ car with stuff inside it for 1300 miles using a hitch welded to a unibody car is recipe for disaster.

I'm with NikwoaC, if you dont have the skills or the money to put towards it I'd sell it as it's just dead weight to you and it sounds like a move like that is going to leave you strapped for a while to come. If you had the funds I would keep it, but it just sounds like a liability right now. ditch it.

Id get rid of it. Its just a Fox, yeah its got T-Tops, but its in shoddy shape.

You know you'll always be able to find another. Sucks to have to get rid of it though
