Dirt Track Slicks?

Well tonite was my first night at the track, ever.

It was an 1/8 mile track and i ran a best of 9.6 @ 73 mph. I was pleased for my first time. I could not hook!!! And i found out later that they did not put the track compound down b/c it was just a "Fun" night. Oh yeah and my reaction times SUCKED but i was too busy tryin to figure out what to launch at to get a good time.

After all that b/s here is my real question. I was talking to a guy in the lanes w/ a black coupe and he had 10 holes on w/ 26 x somthing Dirt Track tires??? I was like huh, well I have heard of them but now I am more curious.

If anybody has any input or experiance w/ them please chime in. I bet I could score a set of these pretty cheap at a swap meet. But I dont really want to waste my time if they suck or something.

McCreary or America Racer makes a decent set. They're not a drag racing slick, but they are supposedly soft enough that they work better than street radials. I believe they are DOT approved as well.

I don't know about American Racers or the McCrearys, but I've seen Hoosier dirt tires used, and they work better than any street radial you're going to find. If they end up being hoosiers that you get, look for the 26.5 dirt bozz (not all will say dirt bozz, some will just have an a-40 stamped on them) you could get away with an h-40 hard bozz, but it'll take more of a burnout to get heat in them, and they are a harder compound. I believe American racers and mccrearys use a number system for their compounds, with the lower the number the softer the compound. Hope this helps

I've seen them used as well, MCcreary's, they do work but have a VERY limited tread life, i'd probably just get ET Streets.

i use to race modifieds on dirt and we used the hoosiers. when we sold the car i had a few extra tires that i sold to my buddy they were d-40s the harder ones,but not super hard he was turning 1.89-190 60 fts with them but they dont last long on the street. but they are a lot cheaper their like 110-115 a piece.

I tried Mcrearys a few years ago. They are better than most street tires as far as traction is concerned, but E.T. Streets are still way better!
