1. Set the parking brake
2. Put it in Park (auto) or neutral (manual)
3. Ignition off, doors closed, lights off
4. Turn the ignition switch to RUN (or ON) position (Do not start car)
5. Wait until the safety belt warning light turns off (about 1 to 2 minutes)
** The next three steps must be completed within 60 seconds or the
procedure
will have to be repeated.
6. Buckle then unbuckle the safety belt three times, ending with it
unbuckled
7. turn on the headlights, turn off the headlights
8. Buckle then unbuckle the safety belt three times, ending with it
unbuckled
** After step 8 the safety belt warning light will be turned on for three
seconds
9. Within seven seconds of the safety belt warning light turning off, buckle
then unbuckle the safety belt
** this will disable the belt minder if it is enabled.... This is also the
procedure for enabling the belt minder if it is disabled.

---do you guys know if the same sequence will work from the 99-2004 mustang to the s197?

Thanks. Good info. But, I have to ask...How did you ever figure that procedure out? Or, is it an official Ford procedure?

for the 02, to do it temporarily, you can just push the seatbelt release button, and it thinks you clicked the seatbelt. i dont know about a permanent disable procedure

The disable feature is always in the owner's manual.

Do you guys actually drive without your belts on, or is there another reason for that you want to disable the chime?

I'll have to ask the same question.....why ????
If I'm wearing my belt and the passenger isn't ...then I have to pull all my savings out to replace the hood and the windshield because my passenger went flying thru the windshield and may have scuffed my hood. Don't you have a family or friends that actually care about you?? why don't you just drill a pinhole in your brakeline and see how far you can go??

i disabled my chime, but !always! wear the sealtbelt.
however, if i am driving 15 feet at 3mph, i dont want that damned chime going off. it irritates me. so its off. if you need a loud beeping to remind you to put your belt on, you have issues

Here's an easier procedure:

1. Grab seatbelt
2. Insert seatbelt into socket
3. Be safe
