Disc Brake Kit...Any preferences out there?

Currently have a 69 plain jane Mustang convertible. Stone stock aside from headers, exhaust and 15" Torque Thrusts. It has drum brakes all around and I will convert it to power disc up front. Any recommendations? SSBC, Master Power brakes? What has worked for you?

I have SSBC kit for a 65 mustang. I am very happy with it. I also do not have hunt for parts. They are off the shelf parts for 65-66 mustang disc brakes. I know they stop good. At least to 4 whell drum.

I have the SSBC kit as well and they work great. When I hit the brake now I actually stop

try these guys

May be less expensive, easy to install, and good feedback from Mustang owners.

You could also do a Granada/Monarch conversion.
If you can find a 1974 to 1978 Granada or Monarch at wreckers, you take the Calipers, Spindles, Rotors, etc & the Master Cyler & brake pedal.
There are many articles on installing this brake set-up on your Mustang.

Thanks for the quick feedback. I have read about the Granada type swap. One issue I have is salt. It seems to have eaten most of the donor cars where I live in the great white NORTH of Wisconsin. Anyway, thanks again. Any other feedback is welcome.

Hey, does PAKRAT know you exist? He took over the 69 Convertible club after I sold Chepie!

I had a 4-wheel drummer like yours, and I did the conversion with Granada spindles, and the MP booster & prop valve. Worked fantastic! I even have the magazine articles somewhere at home on the conversion. As I'm sure you're aware, remember the Granada/Monarch rotor hubs are larger than the Mustang disc hubs, but your Torque-Thrusts should do fine with the Granada stuff. Besides, if you're watching your budget, This swap is waiting for you in the junkyards!

I have MP discs on my 65, they are cheaper than ssbc and they do what they are supposed to. Installation is simple

I just bot these but have not installed yet. They look very nice- complete kit with rotors, 4 piston calipers, pwr booster, master, etc...SSBC from NPD

I'm in the process of installing SSBC front disc brake kit for 65-66 I6 Mustangs. I'll have to mod the hard line that goes back to the rear brakes to install the proportioning valve but other than that, rest is pretty much a bolt on.

BTW, the I6 kit is a single piston sliding cliper type whereas the v8 version is the 4 piston fixed type.

That web site will give you a longer list of cars to check for, making it a little easier to find a donor.

I am in the rust zone as well, and it took some calling around but I found a '77 Monarch as a donor car after looking off and on for a couple months. I would just make a few calls every couple weeks. All I'm using from the donor car is the proportioning/distribution block and the spindles. I'm happy with them, but IMO if you want high performance, saving your money for a good aftermarket kit is a superior solution.

The Granada stuff is cheap. $22 for a rebuilt MC ($4 core), loaded calipers are $40 and $50 for rotors. The wheel bearings were a couple dollars each. So if budget is key and performance secondary, the Granada discs are WAAY better than the factory drums.
