Disconnecting the Factory Alarm

Hey guys,
This isn't getting any hits in the 2.3 forum so I figured I'd give it a shot over here.

My car came with the factory Viper alarm. The previous owner claims was draining the battery, the alarm doesn't work and I don't think it has in a long time. Can I just cut the red power wire and tape off the ends to disable the alarm or is it more involved than that? I don't know if the alarm is wired into the ignition or something.
Thanks,
~A.C.

I do not believe there is such a thing as a factory installed Viper alarm.

IMHO after market alarms SUCK. I would have it completely removed by a professional alarm shop if I were you...

yea aftermarket alarms are a pita, there should be a central control module that looks like a little rectangular box about the size of a ciggarette box, on my old car i just clipped the wires goin too it and threw it away.

it shouldnt be too difficult to remove yourself. check the connections if they just tap into the stock wires it would be a snap to remove. some alarms may have a disable feature if you cut just the power wire

People do not pay attention to the noise though.

And your pager is not going to help catch someone doing a "smash and grab" because they will be gone by the time you get there.

Find the box as mentioned. But just pull off the connectors. If it starts and runs. You're good to go.:nice:

You must not have ever had your car broken into. I currently have a Viper 791XV paging system, and I've caught the theives before they entered the car THREE TIMES already. Sirens are not enough for me, I need the paging as well. Without the paging, I would have been screwed all three times.

Also, be careful pulling out the brain like deftsound said. If you try to do this on my car, it will disable the starter and you won't be able to start my car. Extra security.

EDIT: Please note that I have never had any false alarms on my car. This means that any time my alarm pager goes off, my heart starts beating and I drop whatever I am doing and run to my car. It happened to me at the mall, I bet people thought I was crazy, but I swear, when that pager goes off, I run faster than I would ever normally run. Also, all of DEI's paging products have a pretty good range. I think mine is around 1/4th mile. I'd like to get a signal booster for both the pager and alarm, but not sure how I'd go about doing that.
