Hey i always wondered if there is any importance about that distance. Because for example i have a CAI that puts the MAF in the fenderwell and much further down the line from the throttle body. Is there any kind of calculation in the computer that lets it know how long from when the MAF reads the air stream that its going to hit the combustion chambers? Any thoughts?

Not 100% sure about that Q John

however

I got a thought or two ... don't I always

I've seen some say you don't want the maf too close to the tb cause the air flow can get all hosed up and the maf won't send a clean signal to the pcm

BUT

When I was running my ported E7 combo I had my tb and maf separated with only a Fernco rubber coupler.

Seemed to work fine if you ask me

As for the pcm knowing how far they are from each other

I've seen nothing like that.

The only reason i thought about this is because the time it would take for the metered air to actually reach the combustion chamber would be different depending how close the MAF is to the throttle body.

The air may just move too fast for the even to be a factor.

After I sent the above post, I got to thinking about it more

If that does cause dirty airflow ............

The more flow .............

The greater the error makes sense to me

Maybe I had some kind of prob and didn't know it

That little combo I talked about above ........

It had the airflow of a worn out fart
