distributo cap problem

heres the low down on my problem...
every cap and rotor i run that has brass (2 msd's/2 accel's) burn out within min's and causes a bad miss up top but everytime i through a stock fomoco from advance on the car runs great no problems what could cause this to happen should i try drilling a few holes in the side of my msd cap to release air....

what do you mean by burn out? i dont follow.

the tip of the rotor button becomes black as does the terminals on the cap were the rotor hits it and also it cause a high end miss around 45 and up

The brass caps and rotor will wear much quicker then the Ford Stainless models, it is even worse with with high powered ingniton modules. The last MSD cap I saw or used already had the vent in the top.

are you using a matched set(cap and rotor)sometimes using brass with alkryd doesn't always work right but sometimes it doesn't matter.

ok, thanks for clarifying. i once managed to actually melt the rotor in half (the end of it where the conductor is, was almost melted off). not real sure what i did. (not on a stang).

Rick, you said what i was thinking. a harder metal (stainless or whatever else) will not theoretically conduct as well, but will suffer less erosion and degredation. did you get your blower yet?

i am aware of that so far but will they really burn out within like 5 mins and yes all that i have tried are matched sets i just replaced a arcing coil would that cause it..also could it hurt to drill a few small holes in the side to let air excape

don't drill holes, are you changing the rotor when you change the cap? sounds like the rotor isn't in contact with the cap and causing it to be eaten up.
