Trying to get all the final peices together to complete my build up. My question is do I need to replace my dizzy gear? I have read that I should with a brand new cam (roller). If so what kind do I need? I have also read that it needs to be brass for a roller cam, is this correct? Also I am running the stock dizzy and the gear on that doesn't seem to be brass, it is black in color. Is there anything else I should know?

If it's brass (copper/zinc), a magnet will not stick to it.

I am running the stock dizzy w/ my new tfs stg1 cam. Never heard that the dizzy needs to be replaced. I guess there could be some gear meshing issues but IMO highly unlikely.

AFAIK, we use a steel gear stock. Brass is some soft stuff - You lost me with what you are going to do cam-wise, but really nail that down before using it.

I'd check with the cam manufacturer to be sure.

Good luck.

As long as the distributor gear is softer than the cam steel. The idea is for the dist. gear to fail and not the cam since the dist. gears are easy to replace. With that said, I wouldn't mess with special hardened steel dist. gears. The stock one should be fine. If it wears too quickly, then maybe step up to a harder gear and re-check to make sure the cam is ok later on. I noticed that my dist. gea has a lot of wear for only having about 100 miles on it. I still need to call MSD and Comp to see what their recommendations are.
