I know 2 guys near me with prochargers and they have had nothing but problems , I had my vortech on my car before they even owned their cars and I am going on 3 years and 15000 miles since it only gets driven on dry weekends ........
I have an oldschool P600B on my 97 CObra, with 6lbs of boost it makes 420/435 to the wheels. I love the Procharger, however, it does make quick work of belts, but I knew that going into the deal.
I am going the turbo route with my fox car, and it will be very similar to the orignal poster's setup, will be put together by a reputable shop and cost @ what the procharger kit did, which in my opinion is not too much for the power gains to be had.
well sounds like a great idea. please keep us posted as this goes. i agree with you about turbocharging. as a former turbo regal owner i spent a bit of time working on them and i miss having a boosted car.
Yeah.. it's a shame that there aren't any semi-affordable options out there for you guys. Although, I think that more and more, people are building custom turbo setups, and showing what kind of power can be made. The price is what lead me to buying a supercharger, and granted, I've always wanted a supercharged V8.. Coming from the import world, it's a nice change for me.
But, I'm glad I went with the Procharger... it's leading me to bigger and better things. :SNSign:
My kit worked out fine. The oil issue is generally from using the entire container.I use 3/4 of the bottle and check the level.If you can move the blower with your hand and parts are rubbing, you are missing offset spacers and other little gizmos. Anyway, good luck with the turbo. And to anyone considering a P1..don't let this thread discourage you.
Nah.. I installed it correctly, and I've tried shimming it every which way. No parts are rubbing at idle.. but, when I make a few hard pulls.. I can see aluminum shavings on the backside of the bracket, where the idler hit hte bracket. The bracket is flexing under a load.. it's gotta be. Hell, I can grab the damn thing, and make it flex if I push hard enough. IMO, there's just not enough holding it to the front of the engine.
The oil leak... I dunno.. I mean, if it calls for 1 full bottle, then, putting 3/4 of a bottle sounds like a "band-aid" approach.
I don't know about you.. but if I drop that kind of cash on a blower.. I want it to be a nice setup, without problems that could have been resolved through better R&D. I'm glad that you enjoy your P1... I guess I'm just unlucky.
The 3/4 of a bottle is pretty common on ALL the smaller blowers that call for 1 bottle. It is full with 3/4, so with 1bottle it is slightly over full and can lead to premature leaking....
I've never been able to move the blower by hand with the bracketery they provide....weird.
Good luck with the turbo that is a nice set-up. So what are you doing with the P1SC?
I agree with the comment above, the upgrade cost to the D series blower is worth every penny.
I'll probably be a few weeks before I can start on the turbo project.. I'm actually moving into a new shop in 2 weeks.. so, I'll be preoccupied with that. But, I'll have 4K square ft to work with, and I'm hiring 2 more people. So, I'll have more time to myself. I'll post updates as they come..
My local speed shop uses Procharger and I have seen quite a few of these installed with none of those problems you stated. could just be a defective unit????
Sorry to hear you've had problems with the P1SC. I've got one on mine. I've had it since last October and have run it hard, extremely hard and nothing wrong whatsoever, no belt slippage, no shavings, no leaks, no movement. Not sure what's all going on with the one you got, but didn't you have a warrany with Procharger? You get one when you buy the SC you know. If it had that many problems, did you try to send it back and get a replacement? Did you contact tech support and figure out it they could help you? I've got a 4 year warranty on the charger, so if anything goes wrong, it's covered. Anway, sorry to hear you had problems. I did, by the way, install it myself. I've never done one in mylife and if took me about 5-6 hours, well under their 10-11 hour to install it. The guys at Procharger were surprised I did it so quick, lol. I guess I was too.
