Was just wondering how a car would sound if the dizzy was stabbed 180 degrees off. The reason I ask is because i just did a H/C/I install and the car starts right up but runs really rough and is making an extremely loud bubbling or popping noise around the headers. Not sure if it is an exhaust leak or not but it is pretty loud. Also the car idles but sounds like a lawmower until it gets some gas and the idle isn't registering on the meter. Not sure what the problem could be but i cant wait to get her right so i can drive her. Thanks in advance for any help with my situation.

usally 180 off would'nt even start in my experiences. sounds to me like you timing is off or maybe even some spark plug wires mixed up. 13726548 is the timing order for the 5.0 ho motors. check them out, good luck.

I can't say about fox or Sn 5.0 motors
but
I've had plenty of the old school carb/points 260, 289, 302 motors start up just fine 180 out. It had no power, would rev up slow, etc. You had no prob in telling something was not right :rlaugh:

Just see if the #1 hole is pushing air out and put it up top and line the rotor to #1 ...... Life then will be great :)

Agreed. It should run but would do so like chit.

As Grady suggests, double check TDC on 1 (via removing the VC and watching or with turning it over and feeling air comin out of the spark plug hole). The exhaust stroke can push some air out as well, and this is a source of confusion.

Good luck.

POINTS! Holy old!

BTW, the car will start 180 degrees out. I know mine did when I swapped intakes. It was not pretty. Why did it happen? The guy who helped me out is a hardcore street rod builder who's only used to small block Cheby treee fitties. He stabbed it in bass ackwards. I actually had marked it appropriately, too.

So after stabbing it in the right away, it still ran like crap. No matter how well you marked it, you're going to have to break out the timing light and set the timing again. Be gentle with the dizzy cap, don't grab it by the wire ends, and a little bit goes a long way. Don't forget to yank the SPOUT first, its on the passenger side underneath the air induction on the sidewall.
