Do 4.10s ever get annoying?

I dont mean to get off topic, but I cant help asking some questions about this- Im new to driving stick (Ive always known how to drive stick, but never had a stick shift car) so Im still getting some of this stuff down- I was driving vasco tonight (its 50mph cruising up down and around hills for all you non locals) and as I went up hills I had to keep downshifting into fourth. . . I know you guys keep mentioning that, is it bad for the tranny to give it like 50% throttle uphill in 5th gear when at 1500RPM?

Also, what are good cruising engine speeds for gas mileage and wear? Is it good to put it down into 5th when you can to keep revs below 2000, or is it good to let the engine run around 2500-3000RPM?

Sorry for whoring the thread. . . but I need to know!

I have a Question, i just need some opinions about it.I have a 2002 Mustang GT with a 5spd,I have 3.73 gears in it right now,but i just bought a pair of FoxLake Stage 2 Ported Heads and Comp Cam's (XE270AH) 234/238@.550"/.550.and the Diablosport Predator Programmer. So im about to Extend the Rev.Limiter and other things. I was wondering since i have those Cam's in my car should i go with a bigger gear like 4.10 or 4.30 gears. I really want 4.30 gears cause red light to red light it's going to be a killer to catch up to. Just let me know what you think. Thanks

I love mine, and even just casually cruising around town, I wouldn't see doing it any other way. 1st isn't as short as people think.

I should do a video of me driving just to show what it's like with regular driving.

On the freeway, 80 mph is at 3000rpm. And it pulls! Love it. What would make it even more fun, is a blower.

Spreadman, I'd KILL for that video

Spitfire, yeah thats okay, no significant difference in wear on your engine (while you can say there is, there are many things that outweigh that, like changing your oil) In the back of your Mustang manual it tells you efficient shift points for the car, and I cant remember them from the top of my head sorry, but its definitly not 2500-3000 range

What I am interested in, is how big a difference would it be for taking off from say a red light in town for like the first several hundred feet. as opposed to stock.

i have 4.10's in my mach and i love them. but im goin to 4.30's. but they r a very nice choice

I have a new 05 automatic and was planning on a gear change. How will the 410's work with the new 05 auto?

I wish people would stop making blanket statements like this, " you will regret it". I've had both 410's and 373's. I Yanked the 410's and went to the 373's. I didn't regret it. It's all in what individual people are looking for. With the 410's I got tired of having my ass handed to me on the interstate by Maximas and Caddies. I think it sucks that you top out at only about 105-108 MPH in 4th with the 410's. With my 373's I can pull hard right up to about 125-130 mph in 4th. Get what you want to get, don't listen to what some pimply faced teenager says to get. To save all you teenie boppers the trouble, I will flame and then own myself. Thank You.

I already spank all the kids' imports around town, but I'd like to spank them even worse, and I want my car to be a "neck-snapper" taking off from a light, I believe the 4.10's would handle that quite nicely, would be interested in how short first is though, and how often a need for shifting...

I went with the 4:10's and I love them.Riding down the road in 5th gear running about 60-65 and listing to the flowmasters puts a smile on my face everytime.Also you can't beat the getup and go with them.I have had mine since June but I am now really starting to play with them.You have to be carefull with the wheelspim like the others have said.But its still a blast to get the car sideways in 2nd and 3rd gear!!!!!!Now I wish I had went with 4:30's

Is it hard to install gears? Is there any kind of shim work (or similar) and does it have to be aligned correctly for it to last any length of time. Or is Ford different

I could be wrong, but as far as I know it's like any other rear end in a car, where you have to play with the shims to get it right, otherwise you'd have a bad whine from the gears, or they would just flat not last long at all, they need to be setup properly. I'll let ya know soon, I'm goin with the 4.10's

? Yeah, and the stock 3.27's would run to 150MPH. How often do you race a car on the highway from 65- 130mph? weak

It all depends in what you want out of your car. If you wanna be like some and try to be a highway racer i would say go 3:73 but I personally like to be a drag racer and not too worried about top speed on the highway. I've got 4:10s and love them. They were the first mod I did, and 2 years down the road and all the mods since them, they only seem to keep amazing me..

I agree, it completely depends on what you wanna do, I was mildly worried about getting beat by some commuter car on the freeway, but you know what as I get older, I realize I don't need to be trying to drive 150, I am perfectly happy with getting around town, and having a killer 0-90MPH or so... which is why I think the 4.10's are a good choice for me, they may not be for everyone, but I think it's a good choice.

The only long trips I make are over a hill into sacramento, (HWY 80) and it's about 100 miles, and quite a bit uphill, I am thinking the 4.10's would be awesome, I'm just hoping I wouldnt be stuck driving 55 the whole way, trying not to overwind my car! (I am fairly certain the overdrive 5th will help that)

on another note:
96stanglife, got any more pics of your car (I assume thats your car in your sig?) I really like that hood. (my car looks almost identical, came color, bodystyle, etc.)

Let of gas slightly while engaging clutch...shift into fifth 5 gear...disengage clutch...get back on the gas. Hand their ass to them.

When you run 4;10s...5th is no longer an overdrive.

Do 4.10s ever get annoying?
